Trespassing - Why is it Such a Big Issue if Someone Hikes Across Your Land?

Here in TX it's actually illegal to trespass. If someone is not hurting anything, merely walking through, why is it worth getting the law involved or attempting to hustle them out yourself? Why not just let them be?
Not my house, but if someone were hiking across teh back 40 and not bothering anything I wouldn't care.

It feels like an invasion of privacy, I suppose.

Maybe it's what you are used to. I remember as a kid trespassing - knew it was not right but that didn't really stop us - no one said anything to us.

One day I came home from work to find someone that I didn't know with his dog (I love animals) standing in my garden - not my lawn - my garden. I was a bit put off. He just continued to stand there and stare at me. It made me really uncomfortable because I was a single female living alone.

It's not a big deal if I know the people "trespassing" but it kind of is if I don't know the people. It just raises my guard - like what have they been up to. Maybe if I lived on a busier street then I would think differently.

It really depends, I think. It's always nice to ask permission if that's possible.

I think it's silly. People are so concerned about their bubbles and their property. I mean it's one thing if people are screwing around on your property, causing some sort of harm or damage, then of course they shouldn't be allowed to do that. But if some folks accidentally or momentarily "trespass" on your land, I don't see the big deal. Going out there with a gun is a little crazy, and definitely paints a picture of some people's outlook on people and the outside world. People get so scared for no reason, it's just silly.
