treo or vx9900 for guy who dislikes cell phones

I have never been a big fan of cell phones. I am on Verizon as the 3rd phone in the family plan. I only got the one I have now because I ride a motorcycle and thought it would be good if I broke down. Time for a new phone and I have been thinking I am going to get a full featured phone which may actually get me to carry it with me more and actually use it.
Only feature I know I really want is a mp3 player which originally got me looking at the VX9900. Heard that with the mini adaptor, they sound pretty good with headphones.
Son is always going on and on and on about his palm pilot. He is in med school and uses it for all kinds of things. Got me to thinking maybe I want to go the treo 700W route. From reading about it, sounds like it will also have a pretty good mp3 player (this is something I would like to try and use when I ride the motorcycle).
Figured with a treo, maybe I can get some apps to use when I ride my bike, a riding journal etc. Also, I have a repair manual that is a pdf file so could load it and save me from running in and out of house at times or printing out the pages when I am working on the bike.
I know it is overkill, but I am thinking if I get a good phone, I may actually start to carry one.
My thinking - I have already ordered the VX9900, should be here anyday. Perusing ebay, I noticed new ones were selling there for around $300.00. Noticed I could get a treo 700w for about the same price.
Now I am thinking - I could not open the vx9900 I am getting, sell it on ebay for around 300.00 and buy a treo.
Down side is I would not have the warranty.
Also - would one work better with blue tooth STEREO then the other ? Bluetooth could be pretty handy when riding IF I could find a headset that would fit under my helmet.....
Any ideas, thoughts etc ?
I appreciate any info.

i've found plenty of helmets with bluetooth built in, but they all have only one earpiece and a microphone. I can't seem to find a stereo bluetooth helmet.

My past experience with Troes will not let me recommend or buy one.

As for the ebay phones, you need to make very sure they are for use on the Verizon network. If not, all you will have is an expensive paperweight.
