between Wal-Mart and Bike shop? As a kid ive always loved bikes, so over this winter im saving up money and I plan on getting a MTB from the local trek dealer in town. I was wondering if the Trek MTB 4300 would be good for someone trying to get into MTBing on some trails around my house. I don't mean jumping gaps or any full suspension stuff. I just wanna cruise around the trails with a decent and reliable bike.

I also want to ask, what is the quality of my friends trek bike with full suspension that he bought from Wal-Mart. He got it for 100-200 dollars and im wondering what the difference from Wal-Mart to a local experienced bike shop is and the difference between bike quality. If im paying 580+ dollars for my bike what is the difference.

A full suspension bike from Walmart has to be the bottom of the barrel in terms of bikes. There is no comparison between a shop quality bike and a Walmart bike.

Absolutely NO COMPARISON. Years ago, I rode a Wal-Mart bike on a trail and the rear derailleur broke, forcing me to WALK 14 MILES HOME.

I bought a Trek 4900 MTB and it gave me ZERO PROBLEMS in over 3000 miles of trail and street riding. Go figure...
