Top Songs of the 1960's - Rate Your Music this is my working list/draft/entries so far. The only thing for sure are the top 3, though I think 4 and 5 may stay (with a switch!). The rest are just entries I could think of. I tried to attach youtubes to the rest so people could listen to them if they haven't before, or get a refresh with 'em.

If there isn't one and you want the mp3 i'd be glad to send it to you on AIM. screen name is buddahgeru1

Well, I remeraber reading a few lists a while back from various critic publications like p4k (w/ their songs of the 60's and for a few years) and other ones. I thought it would be fun if we did our own version. It's easier and more obvious to do the album format, and I think it's been done to the death (to almost predictability), where as this one focuses on the craft and power of the song format.

Each person who wants to enter a list makes a list of songs of their favorite/personal-greatest for the decade we're working on. Each person submits it, and I'll do the tallying and we'll see how our overall list turns out. Should be fun, methinks, and get people to (perhaps?) listen to stuff they haven't heard before.

To encourage a range of talents from each decade, a max of ten songs per artist per list will be instituted (Sorry, beatles songs, you're list can't be hogged up by nothing but beatles tunes).

Each list should have at least 100 tracks in submitted order, but if you're inclined you can go all the way to 200 (i'm thinking). I have a point system set up and ready, i'll do all the tallying work, and we'll see which songs come up on the list as the favorites/greatest/essentials of each decade!

any further questions or ideas throw 'em at me.

we'll start with the 60's.

To make my list I listed like 130-140 songs, went down the line as to which one was better than which, and got this. The results even surprised me, since I never really think about which songs I like in what order. This is the closest to satisfyed Ill ever get, since I would spend days switching over and adding then removing songs as they come into my head, something like this is very fluid, which its why its tough to make it a solid.

indeed, i have a feeling that'll definitely make my top 10.

anyone who doesn't have "A Change is Gonna Come" in their top 10 just doesn't just doesn't have a soul as far as I can tell.

I'm game.

Also have a question. One of the best things I enjoy about songs from the 60's is the "side 2 medley" on Abbey Road. Can we count that as one song?

Ive been meaning to listen to Sam Cooke, havent got around to it though, so he wont be in mine.

Im going to fish through all my recorRAB and CD's right now to make my list, gonna be a huge pain in the ass, can't wait!

SounRAB good...but are we doing recordings or songs?

For example, is there going to be a difference betwen Aretha Franklin's version of Bridge Over Troubled Water and Simon & Garfunkel's, or is Bridge going to count for only one entry?

Guys, I didn't forget about this, I've just been busy with some stuff recently.

Some fantastic lists, and have given me some new stuff to check out and consider. Hopefully I'll have a prototype list soon.

SOME stuff?
