For those of you who had the surgery, how long did you wait before you rode in a vehicle after having the surgery. Today is 2 weeks since the surgery and I've been out twice. Once was, of course, the ride home, and the other was, was two days ago, a quick ride to Walmart to look for a dress shirt to wear on Christmas to go to church that would fit ok over my brace. (It was great to get out-I was going stir-crazy!) On Christmas Eve, I am planning on going to my mom's and church which are both less than 10 min away, but my concern is on Christmas Day, my husband, kiRAB, in-laws, and I go and visit my brother-in-law at a Correctional Institute which is a good 1/2 hour or so away and then we susually stay to visit for a couple hours. I already know that I would NOT be able to sit on those hard chairs upright like that for that long so we would cut the visit shorter(his parents can stay longer)but how would the ride their and back be? I know it would mean so much to my brother-in-law and in-laws for me to be there but I also know they would understand if I stayed behind. I'm getting around very well. I take pain pills 6-8hrs if need be. Can I get some opinions please. You've all been very helpful with other matters. Thanks!

Mommev38,

Something I still do when I ride in a vehicle is sit in the front passenger seat and recline the seat back some. I had surgery several months ago and still can't sit at a 90 degree angle at all. You might find this helps for your trip. Also, I find that my back can't tolerate standing still very well, and walking around a little helps out, so perhaps this would help you also. Good luck!

This maybe one trip that is better done without you being there. If something should go wrong and there are delays either in traveling there or when you are there and you can't rest/lay down you will be so miserable. Or perhaps you yourself have some sort of flareup of pain or need just to rest you can't. Your surgery site will survive the trip but you are trying to push yourself too soon...there will be another visit when you are physically up to the challenge.
