Trap door spider in my garden, help!?

ok. i live in the UK, and if i am correct, they are not native.
but yes. i know my neighbour has one... so maybe it got loose. i dont know il ask tomorow. i only saw i was gardening and i hit it with a garden trowel while digging for worms. unfortunatelly i dont think i killed it.
but i cant kill it can i? would it be illegal since its someones pet maybe?
if its not illegal im gonna smash that thing up so much. or maybe burn it.
whats the worse way to kill it? rip its legs off?
