Transmission on a Jeep Grand Cherokee, The windows are not working.?

Please help? On my Dads Car, something happened.When ever he opens his side of the door (Has all the controls on his side) The lights in the car won't turn on. But when you open any other door, they turn on. The window buttons arnt working and they are not rolling up. The locks are not working, and the over drive isn't working, And the transmission. I don't know alot about cars, but we are on vacation in Cali, and i dont want it to be runied. Of you could help, you would be a life saver. What do we check? Or do? We have checked the circuit boards and everything. Please, it would be GREATLY apprecated.
 
There is wiring in the drivers door - when you open the door you will see a black rubber sleeve covering the wires.Chances are there are a couple of broken wires for your windows.

door light switch could be bad. the wiring to the window control switch could be loose or bad. the transmission could be a lot of things. if the car is basically sound, enjoy your vacation and fix the problems when you return home. (are you pulling a trailer?)
