Transitional Syndrome with PLIF?

Of the levels of the spine, the cervical area is most prone to transitional syndrome, or having the weight bearing energy redistributed to above and below the fused area. Probably not much of a concern with your description. I've had 4 levels fused in my neck and understand that I am most certain to have adjacent levels eventually "blow", so to speak. But, considering the chronic pain I was in, it was well worth the risk. After 2 anterior approaches and 1 posterior approach, my cervical headaches are now tolerable. I was told, given "normal" course of activity, to expect adjacent levels "blow" in 8-10 years at my age (middle age). I'm now facing additional surgery at L4-5, 5-S1, and this issue is not even on my mind, given all the other things to worry about. God Bless.
