Transformers: Generation 2

I think I might've been around 12 or so when Generation 2 aired. I actually do have a few of the generation 2 toys. There was a still quite a few in stores when the Beast Wars series started.

Generation 2 was just a re-release of Generation 1. I was in high school at the time, and it was nothing special. The effects were a bit distracting.

G2 was how I was first introduced to G1 (since it was just reruns of G1). If it weren't for G2, I wouldn't have understood any of the G1 references in Beast Wars and Beast Machines.

I was born around the time the original transformers series started, so for me, G2 WAS G1.

It took me decades to find out that the version I saw was just a re-release with a bunch of episodes cut out and such.

The Rodimus episodes I sa confused the hell out of me though. I was like "wow, WTF is this? What happened to Optimus? Galvatron? Is that like Megatron? Wha?"

My first exposure to TF was actually the FHE videotapes, so I got excited when I saw the ad for the G2 show getting aired.

But yeah, the novelty of the 'new' effects wore off quickly.

:D I think I'm the only one who likes and thinks that G2 is awesome. Like many of you, I also started to watch G1 because of G2 and I still love it, but i can't find any dvds or video tapes, I just got one dvd from amazon.co.uk and that's it.

I don't know if I'd say that it was awsome. But I loved the fact that I was seeing Transformers on television again. The mid 90's was a time in which you had to rely on a show being on television to get to see it. Yes, there was a small sample of episodes that were available on vhs. But today we have wonderful dvds which allow us to watch complete television shows at our convenience without them having to air on television.

With the plethora of ways to watch shows these days (DVD, Streaming, DVR, iTunes) it's easy to forget that there was a time when you had to catch a show live or not be able to watch it at all. It was a little better if you had cable, unless your wanted show was too niche for cable as well.

As for me, I prefer without G2's CGI, but it did help keep Transformers alive.
