*Trance Crew* What is the difference between trance/techno/house etc.?

So I've recently expanded my taste into music and got myself into listening to trance (such as Armin Van Buuren, Marcel WooRAB, Paul Oakenfold), but I don't know exactly what makes a song trance or techno or house or whatever. So what is the difference?

Ishkur's guide will tell you everything you need to know, but heres a general guide if you want/care,

Trance has the synth as it's lead, usually going into long elaborate breakdowns with a very minimal baseline. Bpm is generally faster then house, anywhere from 130-150ish

House is lead by the bassline so it sounRAB "groovier" it is slower then trance, generally 120-135 bpmish

Techno is the hardest to explain because everyone assumes all electronic dance music is "techno." Techno is incredibly repetitive and generally pretty minimal. It sounRAB a lot more mechanical if that makes any sense.

Then there are combinations of everything. Its pretty difficult to pigeonhole most songs now into one genre. Progressive / Progressive House is a mix between trance and House, Tech house is a mix between techno and house.

hey, i played happy hardcore for a few years. Raver chicks were awesome.

Now i stick with electro breaks and a little D&B with some mixed up house thrown in. Alot easier to dance to when you aren't moving at 170bpm

I started spinning about 10 years ago with Hard Dance, NRG.... Now I've gotten more into Trance between 135-145bpm... anything really more is getting more into that "hard" catigory. Lots of little aspects in between to like the crash after a build up, if it just drops its hard but if theres like a crash then like a 4 count.. then its something else.. its weird.
