I have taken Tramadol daily for about 1 year, prescribed to me for back pain. I take approx. 50 mg - 3-4x daily. I can tell you from personal experience that this drug is addictive and if you are on it for more than a few days consecutively and you stop taking it, you WILL experience unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. I am on day 2 of detoxing from this drug cold turkey. This is the farthest I've ever made it going off Tramadol. I have tried to stop before but never made it past the 1st day becuase the withdrawals are so horrible. I am hoping that after today or tomorrow I will be through the worst of it. I'd recommend tapering off this drug if you can...I unfortunately don't have that option.
Some of the withdrawal symptoms I am experiencing are:
-chills and sweats, I cannot seem to keep my body temperature regulated. one second I'm boiling hot and the next I'm freezing.
- dizziness and lightheadedness
- restlessness (i cannot describe it other than feeling like I can't sit still, a feeling of uneasiness, crawling sensation under my skin - it is horrible)
- muscle pains
- increased appetite (or this may just be my normal appetite returning because Tramadol is known for suppressing the appetite)
- trouble sleeping - I cannot stay asleep for more than a couple hours, and I wake up with the restless feeling unable to lay still and I am wide awake at 4am
- headaches
- feelings of depression/sadness
(I have read many other posts from other people who are going off this drug that have far worse symptoms. I am lucky I don't have the diarreha and vomiting part that some people experience. )
Some of the things I have been doing to cope the symptoms are taking Robaxin (muscle relaxant) and lots of ibuprofen for the pains I am feeling. Staying hydrated, and as difficult as it is....exercise. If I can push past the first 5 minutes on my eliptical machine as dreadful as it is, and get my heart rate up and break a sweat, I start to feel a little better. I'm sure it has to do with the release of certain hormones in the body or something when you exercise. Taking hot showers also helps the muscle soreness.
Anyone else go off this drug?
