I have taken Tramadol daily for about 1 year, prescribed to me for back pain. I take approx. 50 mg - 3-4x daily. I can tell you from personal experience that this drug is addictive and if you are on it for more than a few days consecutively and you stop taking it, you WILL experience unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. I am on day 2 of detoxing from this drug cold turkey. This is the farthest I've ever made it going off Tramadol. I have tried to stop before but never made it past the 1st day becuase the withdrawals are so horrible. I am hoping that after today or tomorrow I will be through the worst of it. I'd recommend tapering off this drug if you can...I unfortunately don't have that option.

Some of the withdrawal symptoms I am experiencing are:
-chills and sweats, I cannot seem to keep my body temperature regulated. one second I'm boiling hot and the next I'm freezing.
- dizziness and lightheadedness
- restlessness (i cannot describe it other than feeling like I can't sit still, a feeling of uneasiness, crawling sensation under my skin - it is horrible)
- muscle pains
- increased appetite (or this may just be my normal appetite returning because Tramadol is known for suppressing the appetite)
- trouble sleeping - I cannot stay asleep for more than a couple hours, and I wake up with the restless feeling unable to lay still and I am wide awake at 4am
- headaches
- feelings of depression/sadness

(I have read many other posts from other people who are going off this drug that have far worse symptoms. I am lucky I don't have the diarreha and vomiting part that some people experience. )

Some of the things I have been doing to cope the symptoms are taking Robaxin (muscle relaxant) and lots of ibuprofen for the pains I am feeling. Staying hydrated, and as difficult as it is....exercise. If I can push past the first 5 minutes on my eliptical machine as dreadful as it is, and get my heart rate up and break a sweat, I start to feel a little better. I'm sure it has to do with the release of certain hormones in the body or something when you exercise. Taking hot showers also helps the muscle soreness.

Anyone else go off this drug?

I did, but I was taking it in corabination with Percocet and Oxycontin. I experienced all the symptoms you are going through and more.

Hang in there - around day 5, you will begin to feel "normal" again.

hi girl,
i remeraber going off that drug like it was yesterday--- oh wait it was yesterday!!!
i had all those w/d you are talking about. i had a really hard time keeping my food down, and then later in the day i would get hit with a huge hunger i ate everything in sight, then a few hours later i would be back over the toilet. fun times.
the anxiety was really hard it would wake me every hour and keep me up with crazy depressing thoughts. i did a 3 day tapper after getting up to about 5 pills a day. i was going to tapper slower but i could hardly function so i called in sick to everyone and just stayed home, cried and watch allot of tv. i was up on my feet with in 48 hours - not feeling great but i could function.
how ou feeling today?

i hate that drug so much. i'm really looking forward to being off it 100%. its better to feel my daily pain then to feel the way this drug makes me feel, its pure hell coming off of it-- but so worth it! hold on and stay strong, you can-make it to the other side and it will be sweet freedom!:jester:

Yup...I know the feeling. I was taking it a year ago for back pain, too. Only difference is...I was only taking 50mg per day (yes, that is just 1 pill a day) and I STILL had absolutely HORRIBLE withdrawal symptoms. Flu-like symptoms for at least 5 days straight! I literally felt like I was psychotic! I could NOT control my emotions...one minute I was calm, the next I was a raging lunatic! My own husband could not believe the change in me from this drug. Tramadol is BRUTAL to come off of. I would rather put up with the chronic back pain, then to go through that withdrawal ordeal again.

Tramadol is a strange drug! I take it when I run out of Norco(Hydrocodone), which I take about 60-80MG's a day. When I take the Tramadol, I take about 250-300MG's per day. It lasts a long time, but also takes a long time to kick in. I would imagine the withdrawal symptoms would be just as bad, perhaps worse than Hydrocodone.
