Tram Flap Surgery

I had tram flap surgery in '01. From what I've read, there is little follow-up much past the first year or so, and especially 5+ years post-surgery. I'm looking for other women who have had tram flap surgery at least 5 years ago to compare notes as to how they're feeling, any problems they've encountered over the years, what they've done to maintain mobility and flexibility, etc. Thanks!

smmills - I had tram flap surgery I believe in 1999. I don't have any mobility issues but I have gained 20 pounds since the surgery. I feel pressure in my stomach (not abdoman) just right under my breasts. I don't know if it is due to the weight gain or not. In March 2009 I began my 20th round of chemotherapy since 1996. I work full time and for the most part feel great. Let me know how you feel about the surgery and if you have the pressure issue. This only started for me about a year ago.

Hi.. I had my tram in 2002 and I also feel that pressure under my breasts. The worst problem that I have is finding a comfortable bra!! I haven't found one that is not wireless with padding to hide my scars! As far as the pressure I think it has a lot to do with the weight gain! I have also gained like 30lbs. It's not hard to do! I think it is just all to do with the criss-cross of the muscles. God Bless

Hi.. I just wanted to let you know that I had the tram flap in 2002 and the only real problem with my tram in the pressure in my under breast area.. And lots of back pain from having no abs. I need to go back and get to get some scars revised but otherwise they feel like my old breast! I had a great surgeon, but can't go back to him to have the revisions made because he no longer takes insurance. And the other thing is the bra situation they all hurt, make under my breast ache.. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.. Thanks

To those who responded to my post, thanks! In my case, I have a feeling that I was pulled together a bit too tight - or that it's gotten tighter over the years. I've lost weight and have faithfully exercised so I'm leaner than when I went into the surgery. Plus I don't know how much scar tissue has built up underneath. The problem with bras - I have it too! I guess most women have bra-shopping problems but when you've been rearranged as we have been, it does add complications! Bras with wires look better but hurt; I'm not a full size so cups with padding "cave in" in spots; stretchy cups work the best for me - but are difficult to find. And so it goes ... however, in the grand scheme of things, I count my blessings!!!
