Trailers on DVD's

How come some DVD's don't have trailers ??
Yesterday I recieved the 1952 version of "The Day The Earth Stood Still" and in the extras was the trailer.
However I also received the Keanu Reeves remake, and there is NO trailer !!
Why not ??
Are there any other DVD's with no trailer ?
I thought EVERY DVD had trailers.

Doubt there is a single dvd where lack of space is the reason for no trailer.

There are loaRAB of discs without a trailer .
I rented several Bluray discs and look for a trailer to give me a taster and I'm surprised at the lack of trailers.

Having said that , modern trailers are crap compared to the classic days of the 50's to the 70's where the trailers are an event in themselves.

Got Psycho on Bluray yesterday and very happy the 6 minute trailer of Hitchcocks tour of the Bates Motel and House was there.

Now thats a trailer

I have had a couple of DVD's where there were about 10 (or more ) different languages in both the audio and the subtitles, and yet NO trailer.
Surely most of those languages could be dropped to include the trailer, which I think is a very important part of a DVD ?
If the DVD is sold in the UK, why have all those other languages ?

That is because the DVD itself is most likely to be Region 2, which isn't just a disc for the UK, it's a disc for Europe, Japan, the Middle East and many other states.

My Alien Vs Predator DVD has around 10 minutes of trailers.

I know it's slightly off topic, but an ex-rental VHS of Disclosure that I have has 24 minutes of trailers and adverts at the beginning!

DepenRAB entirely on the release. Remember, dvd is kinda full with just a movie. For short films you can add more extras, if its a dual layer dvd, there is space for some extras, but this diminishes the more soundtracks they include, if there are dts or several 5.1 ac3 tracks then the remaining space if any will be worthless. If its a cheapie release on a single layer, this all gets a whole lot worse.

Back when this mattered you'd look for good releases with a separate disc for extras as sacrificing picture bitrate on the main feature for extras is a tad silly. Now its pointless with bluray around.

A Blu Ray i bought recently ('The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' i think) had an unskippable Twix advert before it even let you access the menu...

Shocking!

You pay for something and they're still shoving adverts in your face, whether you like it or not. Having them as non-skip is even worse.

The thing is these adverts and trailers become irrelevant after a few months, whereas the film last you a life time (in most cases).

Oh, I was talking about those DVRAB which have trailers for other films on, it that makes sense.

I think I misunderstood the original post. I though the OP was talking about trailers for other films but now I've re-read, they were talking about bonus content, essentially.

No, Carmen.
I meant that the Keanu Reeves "Day The Earth Stood Still" doesn't have the trailer for the Keanu Reeves "The Day The Earth Stood Still" !!:D
The 1952 original DOES have the trailer for 1952 original !

Many DVD's including Blu Ray have the trailers on the menu or at the end of the film. Many Blu Ray's just go straight to the film these days with the menu at th end.

With all my DVD's I've converted to the Media PC, and I simply copy over the film, no trailers, no warning etc etc. Click on 'Play' and the film starts straight away. If I want to watch the features or trailers, I'll dig out the DVD from the spare room.

As a side point, I have acquired trailer DVD's / videos in the past for some trailers. As mentioned, the old trailers are the best. The majority of new trailers show snippets more than anything which are about a second long, so mainly pointless these days.
