In the near future I am going to be trading my car for a motorcycle from someone. Im not entirely sure how this process goes so i need a little help so i can keep everything legal and complete.
When buying or selling a car from a person, as far as i know you need to write or type up a bill of sale, which you both sign, to show proof of sale. Kind of like a receipt. Then you also give the person buying it the title, and registration. Is this correct? Do they get their own registration or something? Anything with the insurance? Do i keep the plates?
Now what about for my situation? Since were trading what do i need to do (if what i said before was even correct)?
Do i give them the title, registration, and write up a bill of sale for both of us, and get their title and registration? What do i do about plates for the ride home on my future bike?
Part 2
After i get back with my new bike, i will want to get on the road and legal as soon as possible. What paperwork do i need to send in to the state or whatever to be ok?
Im sure ill have to contact my insurance company and get some coverage.
Then ill probably have to go in to the city and get plates or a temp for a while.
Also go online or something to register it? im not sure what to do so help me out!
