toyota top end tappet noise that sounds like deisel?

I had the head replaced... they replaced with head out of wrecking yard... It runs smooth, but it sounds louder than it did before... almost sounds like deisel at times... tappet noise. Wondering what I might be. don't think they adjust tappets as the can be pretty expensive.This is a 2001 Toyota Tacoma V-6... 3.4 sfi Automatic... 2wd
