I have a 1991 Toyota Pickup and the A/C is and has been acting funny. there's three settings ( low, medium, and high) the only way i ccan use my A/C or heater or whatever is to put it on high. low and medium arent working. what could be wrong? and what do i need to fix it?
thanks.

The fan blower motor resistor is bad and needs replacing. The fan will run on high speed unless they slow it down. There are separate resistor (coiled) wire for each speed to slow the fan. Over time they can burn out like a light bulb element (same concept) so that speed setting doesn't work any more.

Simple fix. First go buy a blower motor resistor so you know what it looks like. Then replace it your self. It is located in the air ducting just above the blower motor which is below the glove box. It's 2 sheet metal screws and a plug to unsnap. 10 minute job and maybe $30 for parts.
