I have a 2006 Toyota Matrix XR with automatic transmission. It has about 37,000 miles on it and the check engine light just came on, accompanied by hard shifting. I got it home and reset the gas cap, the light went off and the transmission went back to normal (smooth) shifting. It happened again today but now the light hasn't gone off and the shifting is very hard. Any ideas before I spend a bundle at the Toyota dealer?
