Toyota Corolla- How long before repairs needed?

My neighbour has offered to sell me a Corolla, year 2000, 55,000 miles. It has not had any repairs i.e. original exhaust, battery,etc. It has only had new tyres.

how long before this vehicle starts to need exhausts, shock absorbers, stater motor etc.
 
Not entirely sure, but my dad had one a few years ago and it lasted ages, it's in fact still in the garage. Didn't need any attention whatsoever, well other than the regular wax and t-cut.
