Toyota Corolla 1992 has a loss of power/acceleration and then stops. What's wrong?

I will be driving along and then my car will start juddering and acceleration will decrease/increase randomly, it will go on for 5 - 10 minutes before it gets really bad and my car will loose acceleration (slowly from whatever speed right down to 0) and then then engine will turn off. If I wait for a couple of minutes and then turn my car back on, my car works as normal. This has happened 3-4 times.
It is a Toyota Corolla 1992 Liftback, manual.
