Toyota celica GT or GTS vs. Honda civic si?

I am looking on buying a car for about 2000 dollars off of craigslist or a site like it. What car would you recommend. Its probably going to anywhere between 1990-1995. Any suggestions? Celica or Civic? Or would you recomend a different car?
 
I would recommend a Civic. I know many people with Civics, and they simply enjoy them. They can be easily customized, and stock parts are less vs. a Celica. Civics are also faster in my opinion, if you have the proper set up. Celica's arent very impressive to me, and the engine performance on them in the mid 1990s were never impressive.

All in all a Civic is going to end up being more affordable on gas, and on parts. Not only that, they are wonderful to drive 8 ) (manual for the win!). Also I would recommend a 1995 or 96 Civic.
 
Sound to me you want some speed. however for 2000 dollars it wouldn't make a different between GTS or SI because one you prob can't find that model for that cheap that are in a good condition. you better off with civic hatch, because it look much better and it will be as cheap as anything else out there if you are looking to hook it up. my fav is the 92 hatch dx. bring it to your boy or some cheap garage and tell them to give you another 50-100 hourse power for another 500bucks.
 
I would prefer Honda civic because I had a civic and parts are cheep and it has simple mechanism so I was able to fix things myself . Go for civic you wont be disappointed.
