toyota carina e 1994 problem?

today i drove my car about 25 miles and the engine ran beautifully and then out of nowhere it cut out with the engine check light on .iv already replaced the trottle body,lamda sensor, cat converter,airflow sensor, temp sensor, distributer and a full service to. i was told this model doesnt have a crank positioning sensor ,new fuel filter to now im broke .thought i had it sorted then eh no a scaner doesnt get any codes unless the fault acures pluged in and i dont have a100 quid an hour for that any ideas there is one thing not working the rpm guage
