toyota camry 2000 - Engine check light on?

2000 Toyota Camry 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 120000 miles

Hello,

My engine check light is on. Toyota Dealer told the following issues.

1. Air Fuel Oxygen Sensor got damaged. It struck to exause manu fuild. So he needs to replace both. Both labor and parts will cost $940.

2. Replace Valve Cover gasket (He said it is leaking badly) - $560

3. Replace Transmission pan gasket (Leaking oil badly)
- $200

I am very new to this automobile industry. Please help me to solve this puzzle. All these items worth the above cost? Can I replace the above myself? If yes, please guide me to do so.

Wow, I would find another garage and fast....
1) O2 sensors for both run about $300, maybe take an hour to put in.

2) Valve cover gaskets run up to about $50 on that engine, again about 2 hours labor.

3) Transmission gaskets (with new filter) run from $15 up to $$40 and only take about an hour.

So you are looking at basically $400 for parts and 4-5 hours for labor so sounds like a $900 job, unless I'm missing something.

You could find a good garage to do cheaper, or you could try doing yourself, if you have some time.
 
This is ridiculous. The O2 sensor is located at the exhaust manifold , right in front of the radiator fan. This is a $15 part and is easier to replace than changing a flat tire.. 5 minute task. If it's stuck all you need to do is spray wd-40 and wait an hour or two. Stuck to the manifold , my foot. Unless you took a torch and welded it yourself, it can be removed with Wd-40 and a wrench. I've removed sensors from much older and rusty cars, this has never been a problem.

#2 and #3 you could do yourself but it's going to be frustrating without ramps. Buy a pair at walmart for 40 bucks . The biggest mistake you can make is going to the dealer for repairs / reading engine codes, they will find ways to get money out of you.. they have mechanics on standby who need something to work on. Go to a small mechanic if you really need to but never go to the dealler for a car that is out of warranty.

For all 3 repairs you only need a 16 piece SAE wrench kit ( $16-$20) and a wrench to go with it ( $10-$15 ) plus two ramps ( $40 ). These tools will do 99.9% of car repairs.

If I were a novice with zero experience with cars, all these tasks would not take me more than 2 hours total.
