I don't think tourists should be allowed to drive. When they enter a new country/county/city, they should be stopped at the border and offered public transportation - bus, cab, horse-drawn carriage, whatever.
We live in a "tourist" town. Folks flock here year-round, which, I suppose, is good for the local economy. But.... they don't know how to drive. Half the time you see them toodling on down the street, with a cell phone in one hand (which is another rant altogether) and a map in the other.
They drive in the fast lane on the freeway (some of that "my rental car is faster than yours" mentality), then zip across the lanes at the last minute because they don't want to miss the off ramp (for which signs have been posted for the last 4 miles, but they were too busy talking on the cell phone to read).
They're going to visit the tourist spots anyway (for the most part), so why not have tour buses standing by?
OK - another gripe about tourists, but from the other side. Why is it, when you are in an unfamiliar city, and you ask someone for directions, 3 times out of 4 you receive wrong directions? Are the locals purposely trying to send you to the tour bus drop off spot?
Hmm, maybe this is something that should be moved to the Conspiracy Theory forum. :sarcasm:
