Touch screen on Palm TX

embrace life

I am on my second TX. The first died with touch screen problems and with power button shut-off problems. It lasted me eight months from the time I purchased it. I returned it under warranty and received my second TX. It has lasted me three months. The touch screen does not respond to anything done on the screen. I could use the buttons on the bottom of the unit until I did a hard reset. Now it is stuck in the bulls-eye screen mode in the initial set-up portion of palm's software. I cannot get past this screen. Any ideas??? Has anyone else come across this issue with their TX's? Does anyone have any thoughts on a replacement of my palms? I have a couple proprietary programs that I use for work so I have to stick with palm otherwise I might consider moving to a different platform

Not ready to give up yet, but close...

I have had a similar problem with my TX. I had to have it replaced 4 times in the first year! The touchscreen kept going out of whack. I have had my current device for three months now. I think that's a record. With the last replacement, I was told to sync it differently. I used to have a Sony Clie with Palm OS. It may by that the Sony applications were messing up my previous Palms. It sounds strange to me, but so far, it seems to be working.

Odd, the power button is a known issue but the devices digitizer (touchscreen) shouldn't just go like that. Generally if somethings going wrong with it there are symptoms you can pick up like "digitizer drift" where you put pressure on part of the screen however the device picks it up on a different part of the screen.

Something to check is make sure there's nothing caught between the gap of the screen and the edge of the casing such as a screen protector, lint, dirt etc.

In the past year i have had 4 tx's I am nopt going to bother to replace the last one. I just struggle along with only a small part of the screen responding. SAtaples warned me when I bought it that the extended warranty was a good idea becasue people tend to have screen problems. My issue is that there is no Palm phone that has as big a screen or is as adept at the pda functions... or is there?

Here is what needs to be done about the Palm TX screen digitizer issue..

Go to this link: http://www.usedpdaparts.com/PalmTX.html

Get yourself a new digitizer. Install it. Problems disappear. I did this with
my TX about two years ago, and haven't had any problems. It was not a
simple fix, and you need a little bit of expertise.. but not impossible.

I actually bought two used digitizers, thinking I'd probably mess one up during my first attempt..

..but I did get it working the first time.

Here is another link:

I got a cool video from these guys (and should have bought my digitizer from them, as it is a GLASS digitizer.. for the same price as a "used" digitizer).

They have a video which shows exactly how to get at the thing to make repair.

Best wishes..

Our TX has a strange issue and I wonder if the replacement mentioned above would fix it. It is 2 years old. All had been fine and then we noticed that if we press on the bottom on the FIND icon, it does not work. If we press right at the edge of the screen, below the Icon, it is OK. Also, when entering text, there are more and more times when it does not "echo" the correct letter...sometimes it just shows a Period. We have changed the protector and did a hard reset and done several screen cals...no help.

TIA...if a $60 part will fix it it is worth a try, as we do not want an iPOD. OH, what do they mean by a glass digitizer? I see a new LCD/Digitizer from the place with new parts.

My experience with Palm has been much more positive than some posts. I purchased this TX three years ago and only in the past six months have I had the typical screen touch problems.

I ordered the replacement screen from PDA parts but their UTube video has gone mute. And, a second video is not good enough to follow as a guide. I took the Palm apart with no problems but do not feel competent to replace the screen without a better video guide.

I also did the prescribed cleaning procedure, and that improved the performance slightly, but it's obvious the old screen is going.

Any suggestions.

davidwperk,

I have a Palm T|X that I was given as a competition gift. It's software is no longer compatible with my company's and has become a paperweight. I'd hate to see it recycled when someone can still use it. It works fine and has the leather case. All I'd ask is for shipping compensation. I have the wall charger and USB charger I can send along. How would I get them to you?

How generous of you. My Palm synchs quite well with my MacBook Pro, so I intend to continue using it.

I would be glad to pay the shipping costs, or you could ship them FEDEX or
UPS collect.

If you will email me at [email protected], we can work out the transfer. Again, thank you.

So the touch screen can be replaced and you are pleased. Did you do it yourself or send it off to usedpdaparts to fix. I love my TX and want it fixed. I hate to give up on the $314 I spent on it.
