Total Noob: Cricket flash after getting new connection or before

Ok, Newbie question here, I am planning to get a new cricket connection. I am planning to get a HTC Touch on ebay and then flash it over to Cricket following the steps on this wonderful forum.

My question is, Do i need to sign up for cricket connection and get a phone nuraber before i start the flashing process.

Will I need a cricket phone to sign up and get a new nuraber at the cricket dealer. Or do i need to buy a cricket phone and get a connection and then transfer the service over to my Touch?

Ok,I read the FAQ sticky and I think I got my answer for atleast one if not more of my q's: As long as I give the cricket rep. my phone's ESN, he will enter it into the system and i will get a cricket phone nuraber and later when i flash my phone over to cricket and enter the new phone nuraber i should be able to activate my phone. Is my interpretation right?
 
yeah sure-

just read the esn from under the battery when you get the phone, call into cricket and activate a line with that esn when they ask for one, then program it to work


now, you can do those things in any order, but you will definitely need an esn when you activate your account

another thing to consider- you may want to buy cricket's cheapest phone anyway if you are getting the $50 unlimited plan...this is because you can get the first month of service for free ($50) and that will almost pay for one of their crappiest phones...then you will have a backup

beware: if you do this, then you will probably need to go into a cricket store to switch over to your touch whn you are ready to activate it...they do this to keep dealers from scamming
