Total Drama anime?

All this talk about anime adaptions around here, weather it is Family Guy here or Powerpuff Girls on the anime message board, got me to thinking, how freaky crazy a Total Drama Island / Action / Musical anime adaption would be.

There is already a anime called Sniffer I believe, that parodies dating reality shows, so it wouldn't be that out of place.

Total Drama Island / Action is really popular in North America, Fresh TV already has a working relationship with the United States, so it is not impossible they want to expand their international influence to the far east.

Personally I think it would be a disator, like the Powerpuff Girl Z, but it might be one of those disators that is fun to watch.

I saw a couple of TDI anime style fanarts on Deviantart, anything could happen ;) It could work as long as they don't try to modify it to fit younger audiences or another group of viewers like Toei and Aniplex did with PPGZ.

So would this be like a Canada-Japan co-production? Also exactly how would an anime version be different from the current show? Would the challenges involve card games? Heck would the characters names be changed?

The characters names would be changed to Japanese names, since this our Japanese kids instead of Canadain kids.

But I think though some of the characters would be the Japanese version of the originals, some would be original characters, and some of the original characters will not make the Japanese transition because those types of characters may not excist in Japan. For example I find it hard to beleive there would be someone like LaShawna on the Japanese show, you don't see too many characters like her on an anime.

Maybe they would add one character I thought the original should have had, a cliche anime comic relief character the residental male pervert. A character that hits on ever girl, spies on them in the shower, touches them in inappropriate areas, and get kicked off very quickly.

In my honest and truthful opinion, no. It would not be a good idea to make a TDI anime. Why? Because there are several factors of humor that make TDI funny, and those factors of humor are looked at differently in different cultures, namely Japan. If TDI were to become an anime, several elements that made some people fall in love with TDI, become completely nonexistent. Another reason would be the fact that, besides expanding influence of the show, what would be the point of making a whole new show? Animated TV programs tend to cost a large ammount to make, and while TDI uses Flash here in North America, it's mre than likely that a Japanese version of the show would be made in "traditional" frame by frame animation, which we all know is more expensive to make. Producers would see n real point in spending money to make a whole new program only to expand an audience, and even if it were to happen, I'm sure it wouldn't be as popular as the TDI that airs in North America.

I guess DJ too, there aren't many black people in Japan and I guess Chef wouldn't be black either.

That's one problem I have with anime, when it comes sexual behaviour, there is very little subtlity, I mean in TDI you can argue that there is evidence that Harold and Duncan are somewhat prevy, but its more hinted then out right said, that's a little more realisitc.

Also where would this name take place, what would be the Japanese version of Muskoka, Ontario? Do they have have "cottage country", in Japan?

I wonder if TDI would ever air in Japan, on either CN or Jetix and if it did, would it have a warning?

Harold would become an otaku, Gwen would dress up in lolita clothing, Eszekial would become more like a country bumpkin than Amish, and Owen would probably have the Japanese flag on his shirt.

Otherwise, I can't think of many other differences in terms of characters, Japan is just as bad with stereotypes.

wait if its an anime, why does it have to be set in Japan?

The show is about Canadian culture and canadisms. It aired in america and we didn't dub out anything related to canada and replace it with Go america
they even left the bald eagle alone. If it is made into an anime, it should remain culturally about canada, does japan know much canada anyway.
maybe it will be a learning lesson. Leave names and races as they are.

You know brock from pokemon was modeled after a minority race in japan, but they still had him when internationally no one knew of what race he was.

Just because PPGZ and That stitch anime did it doesn't mean its a good idea.

I'm kind of not seeing the upside on TDI becoming an anime either. There is a good chance that some of the humor would be changed simply based on the culture differences between the two countries. There's also the fact that the two American cartoons that have become Japanese cartoons, PPZ and Stitch, have not been generally well received or that much better than the American cartoon series. Though I would still be interested in PPZ since I hear it does pick up after awhile and it does offer something different to the franchise. I don't have much interest in the Stitch series as of now.

It was produced in Canada, so it takes place in Canada, correct? Therefore, if an anime of it would be produced it Japan, they will make it take place in Japan. Similar to PPGZ and Stich! the Anime.

... not all anime characters are moe or kawaii
I don't think TDI would make a good anime. I think it should stay as a cartoon. I haven't seen that Stitch! anime but I've seen some clips of Demashita Powerpuff Girl Z and it looked fairly terrible. :p
