Total Drama Action "Ocean's Eight or Nine" (Spoilers)

I'm a bit surprised then there isn't some tension between Courtney and Duncan, because of Duncan being with Gwen in the same team, maybe for the next episode? ;)

Sorry about the lack of activity but I still haven't seen this episode yet. And I guess the other usual regulars haven't either.

I saw it:

What an episode. The Gaphers are still mad at LaShawna for that preformance a few episodes back.

Some funny exchanges between the trio of Duncan, Heather, and Howald. If they weren't about to merge teams, I would like for LaShawna to go next, just so those three can be the remaining contesdents on the team. Maybe they could be the final three.

Yup Courtney is back, she is back to season 1 Courtney in this episode. She is old bossy self but without the psychopath side. It is genious how Courtney's lawlers were able to get her immunity tonight and prevent her from being another Eva.

I have to give a big thanks to Courtney for voting off Owen, she was right, he cost them the challenge.

BTW, have they just droppd the whole evil Justin storyline. There is no main villain this season.

It is too late in the game, for Courtney to be considered the main villain, Heather was evil through out season 1.

Call me mean, but I thought what happened to Lashawna was hillarous.

Okay, finally watched it, much better than last time.

  • I skipped over the recap. In my own little world, a random time skip like in that one Futurama episode happened and Izzy vanished.
  • Justin trying to persuade Chris... I can hear the yaoi fangirls now.
  • I like how Courtney showed up in the episode. Weird how she doesn't even mention Gwen, consider how mad she was in the Aftermaths.
  • And the Grips lose... Again. Poor Courtney, she wanted to win but we're reminded how incompotent her new teammates. Not to mention loss in a way that Dick Dastardly can sympathize with.
  • So Lindsay has been in 8th grade for 3 years. Does that mean she's older than everyone else?
  • And the champ is gone after 13 episodes. It's cute that Owen gets voted off after Izzy, I hope this means a reunion at the next Aftermath.
  • Another reminder why the Grips are the way they are. They want to vote off the one person that wants to win rather than the weakest link.
Next Time: No preview on mine, if anyone has a preview, tell what goes down.

I've seen most of this episode now save about five minutes. Trying to watch it has been a huge exercise in frustration.

I loved how creeped out Chris got when Justin offered to give him a massage.

Anyway, half the season is over with this episode. What has everyone thought about it so far? It hasn't been bad but I can't say I enjoyed it anywhere near as much as I enjoyed "Island".

EDIT: Finally saw it in full. Damn if that didn't seem to take forever.

The rumors were, quite unsurprisingly, true. I can't say I blame the Grips at all for voting for her. Aside from her constantly insulting them to their faces, they also must resent the way she was able to get on.

I have no idea whether there will be a new episode next week. I certainly hope there is but I'm not going to get my hopes too high.

Is it just me, or for someone that hasn't seen his girlfriend in awhile, Duncan seemed rather horrified, and when Chris states that Courtney is back in the game, Duncan looked liked he wanted to throw up.
I think there is something going on. :p

not only Gwen, but possibly Heather as well, in the episode "Masters of disasters" when they was trapped in the sun, Heather goes, without knowing it, right to Duncan who seems to like it.

Man, it took a while. I saw the first half of the episode yesterday, but the second half was still missing, and I actually saw the second before seeing the second episode of Stoked. (sigh)

No recap, thank you.

Does Chris have a driver's license? That shows signs that he kinda doesn't. :p

Cutting through wood with a knife is apperantly is a hobby.

Harold is slowly showing signs of no longer trusting LeShawna...right?

I'm surprised she didn't react, even if Duncan had to do a butt joke.

Don't you mean your jaws are back to normal? Or am I the one wrong?

"More like 10 people."
Hey, he only ate a whole plate, and **** you anyways! Darn you, Alone In The Dark, the 2008 game, for having a meme phrase.

OH MY GOD, where did Owen get those ninja moves?! Maybe Izzy teached him a few pointers... ;)

Rope'd!

I thought he made better entrances before, or maybe Beth is impressed by everything.

Oh, is this my cue to gasp as well? Okay. GASP.

Wait, bank heist films involve rescuing someone from safes, too? I think I'm being mixed up again. (I never saw the Ocean's series)

This isn't a confessional...but hey, LeShawna's looking at us, so I guess it's classified.

H-bombs? That joke should've been done 2 episodes ago!

Mindless fighting FTW.

"Ohhhh! My junior high locker combination! It didn't change the whole three years I was in Grade 8, so it must be standard!"
...Wow, I mean, I can handle Lindsay being called stupid, but...this was way too far, I mean, held back 2 times? (facepalm) I wanna hug Lindsay now...

GAH! Beth mentions her "boyfriend" again!

Wow, everyone's not even trying anymore!

To think Harold's weakness would be a safe kind of combination, even though 3 episodes ago he was able to solve a similar one underwater.

"Inner Owen"? Reminds me of those commercials with food products. :p

Okay, okay, Beth, that's good enough evidence! I believe you have a boyfriend now! I'm sorry I ever doubted you!

Um, is it comfortable when you put it...there?

(laughs) Apperantly, that perfume makes Owen think his own teammates are food. :p

Well, as long as LeShawna can be freed by the producers, no problem, right? :)

Wait, Duncan's "bank heist" message says this: GHF mIiOJ

I know it might parody those kinda of messages, but...that just makes no sense. It almost makes it seem like he doesn't know how to write.

Slow motion walking is so cool...as long as your have awesome music like that, whihc sounds like it was produced by Mike Patton. :D

Chris somehow likes scaring them.. :p

All of a sudden, Owen's a collapsing heap, how the heck was that possible?

Well, he could anything, so yeah, the liquids of the perfume could work, too.

That...could explain why he's very off, I guess.

...Are my pants on too tight? :o

Of course, it's Courtney! I would know the back of her lower half anywhere.

Duncan faints.

Courtney lost her freckles? Has anyone noticed this? Also, is that even possible?

Yeah, yeah, wait, she's the second prize? :ack:

Yeah, sue them, you'll take all their money, you'll sue them, even if they look at you funny. :p

Interesting irony, isn't it? They're at the stage cliff again.

Chris seriously doesn't have a driver's license. Meh.

Yeah, tell him off, Courtney!

Great, looking at Lindsay as a soda pop made me thirsty.

Owen has his crazy face on again...

A I Know What You Did Last Summer reference? Genius! :)

Notice that Harold and Heather keep their funny costumes, yet Duncan doesn't...hm.

Yeah, CAN SOMEONE FREE LESHAWNA, PLEASE?!

Voting Fail. :p

Wow, Chef doesn't appear until now.

And the defending champion....is gone. OMGWTFBBQSAUCEWHUT?

Eh, whatever, let him.

Well, that explains why he gets so many awards from those Cartoon Network trailers...

Wait, does she have really good ears or somthing? It's like she tried to reply!

Well, one prediction comes true. And if the Lamo-o-sine game is accurate then the next to follow will be
Leshawna and Heather

As for general thoughts on the episode.

Was definitely an enjoyable episode. The long awaited return of Courtney and an extra injection of drama. Really, if the producers of TDA (in the cartoon, not real life) had any sense, they would realize what a blessing this is. They have a contestant that basically puts one of the Gaffers on edge, and is so abrasive that she makes the Grips fear and rebuke her. This season has definitely gotten more interesting.

But with this, I've basically lost all sympathy for the Grips past losses. You have to admit, going into the season, the Grips were the definite underdogs, compared to the Gaffers. When you compare their team, the raw skill and competitive level of the Gaffers greatly overwhelm the Grips.

The Gaffers had 5 of their 6 teammates survive to the merger, of which 4 of them were in the top 5. Compare to the Grips, who only had 3 made it to the merger under their own ability, and 1 of which made it to the top 5 (and won, depending where you live). Their only advantage is that they lacked any major intra-team conflict, while the Gaffers were a powder keg of conflicting egos. This should of at least worked to their advantage in any challenge that required a lot of team cooperation, but unfortunately, it didn't, and it's made all the more apparent in this episode. Sure the Gaffers fought a lot while the competed, but a poor working engine is better than an engine that doesn't work at all.

This is probably the closest the Grips ever came to an actual victory, won without any strings attached, and it was because of Courtney, the one that introduced a major conflict into the group. But she did what Lindsey wasn't able to continue to do, she kept them on track, she kept them moving, she was basically their Heather figure, without the backstabbing, and yet they tried to vote her off, even despite it's futility, just to spite her. Yeah, they deserve every single loss they got after Trent was voted off. As Izzy would say, Courtney is "surrounded by loons". Good thing they'll won't get the chance to vote her off for a while, because if my predictions are correct,
the Gaffers are in for a long string of losses.
Maybe they'll start to appreciate her then.

Ok, here are my thoughts on this ep:

1. It looks like after what she did, no one wants to trust Leshawna anymore. Who can blame them?:(

2. I see Owen's jaw has healed nicely.:)

3. During the first challenge:

a. It was hilarious seeing Harold & Heather fight over trying to unlock the safe!:p

b. It was creepy seeing Justin try to "sweet-talk" Chris to helping the Grips.:ack:

c. It was hilarious how Owen became the Incredible Hulk and busted out because of Beth's chicken-scented perfume!:D

d. It was kinda sad how the Gaffers left Leshawna in the safe.:( No doubt it was for revenge, but still.

4. It was funny how Duncan passed out when the bank teller turned out to be...Courtney!!!:D

5. It seems the Grips weren't too thrilled to have Courtney on their team. If it's any consolation, neither was she!:ack:

6. Well, it looks like being alone in the safe has made Leshawna regret what she did.

7. During the second challenge:

a. Duncan was great putting his team's car together.:D Too bad Justin didn't want to get his hands dirty.:p

b. Seeing the Gaffers bust through those different sceneries was hilarious!:D

c. I kinda liked how Courtney made her team improvise to get into the race.:)

d. It sure came close to see which team would cross the finish line. It turns out, the gaffers won.

8. During elimination, it really was sad to see Owen get voted off, considering the Grips couldn't vote off Courtney.:crying: They should've voted off Justin because he practically didn't do anything!!!

9. I really loved Owen's speech! I thought it was great!:D

This was a great ep! 4 stars.:D

One last thing...

I'm gonna miss Owen!!!:crying: Regardless of his weirdness and constantly passing gas, he was the most hilarious character of all!!! I'll never forget him!:crying::crying::crying:

Mesousa, once again I've got something to cry about!!!:crying::crying::crying:

That would really piss me off if that is indeed true. They've been setting Leshawna getting the boot from her team quite sometime now. Plus you realize that the Grips have only one win out of 9 episodes and I've been waiting to see that tide change. Even the Killer Bass had their victories.

Also, did anything think Owen viewing Justin, Beth, & Lindsay as food items a done to death gag?

Although it is true that in TDI, the merger occurred at this time, I have my doubts, especially given the different number of people, the elimination scheme, and the fact that if they were merging now, that there are eight people, why they didn't merge prior to Courtney's reveal. It would also be an incredible buzzkill if that occurred, since Courtney just got into the game. It also greatly places into doubt how Courtney will continue, considering that Courtney has a guaranteed 4 votes against her, while the Gaffers can't seem to agree on who would be deserving, with Leshawna being the closest candidate.

Well, based on the Lame-o-sine game, I'm thinking one of two possibilities will happen.
We're at least in for another 2 eliminations, prior to the merge, since 6 was the number they showed before having the next wave of predictions. Or basically the next TDA Aftermath. The show usually likes to save the major stuff immediately preceeding or following a TDA Aftermath.

The other possibility is that they wait until the final 4, and then do what they did and bring in previously eliminated. It would make sense of the fact that there are 6 choices in the game, and the weirdness involved, but I'm starting to wonder if the game is an accurate representation of the things to come, or just the people at Teletoon screwing with us.

Finally saw this one...

No, not thrilled about what happened to LeShawna, even if she did double-cross the team. Then again, she was the only rational person on her team...

Movie Genre:
Apparently a parody of the casino-heist film "Ocean's 11"----more likely (per my remarks about the TDA contestants apparently being rather lacking/narrow in movie knowledge regarding anything not made in their teenaged lifetimes/that isn't playing at a mall multiplex) the recent Ocean's 11 remake, and not the original "Rat Pack" (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., etc.) starring film from 1960.

Comments:
- Even Harold turned on LeShawna.... yikes.

- I'd assume post-production special-effects/CGI added to explain Owen's food-hallucinations (for an within-the-show's-universe explanation for something that shouldn't be possible otherwise).

- More of Beth's "boyfriend"...

- And... Courtney's back. Still as bossy as ever... though at least she didn't bring up her CIT experience every two minutes. Duncan on the other hand seems rather immobilized by her return :-p

- See my avatar/accompanying bio line. :-)

- And leaving this week is.. Owen. The guy who won TDI and gave up the chance for $100,000 to win the million now goes home empty-handed. Too bad... though wonder what an Owen-less TDA will be like (besides way fewer fart jokes).

Old-but-amusing cartoon jokes:
- Seeing people as walking food objects is a very old cartoon gag. A gag that got a bit overused in this episode.

- The Incredible Hulk: Owen's "you won't like me when I'm hungry" and green-eyes bit... heh.

- The Flintstones: The Grips deciding to build instead a "modern Stone Age" foot-powered racer----similar to the foot-powered cars the Flintstones drove on their show. Too bad no direct Flintstones jokes (not even a "Yabba-dabba-doo!" from fat-and-ravenous-like-Fred Owen)...

EDIT: Thought of another one...
- Wacky Races: The late 60s Hanna-Barbera race cartoon had a few of the elements seen in this one (racing in wacky cars, breaking down at the finish line, the Ant Hill Mob's foot-powered "Getaway power"... and, well, the Mob themselves being crooks, etc.).

Canadianisms:
- None really this time... unless you count "Grade 8" (not "8th grade") being mentioned by Lindsey.

Next episode:
Don't know... but here's hoping LeShawna gets out/makes things up with, erm, juvenile-ex-con, evil-heartless-witch and Harold. :-p

It was amusing the first time he did it but I agree it was a bit overdone.

I can't say I'm too sad to see Owen go. He's been in pretty much every episode in both seasons and has had plenty of screentime. I personally could use a break from his antics for at least a little while. It does stink he never got his money back but it was his own fault he lost it in the first place.

There might be another possibility:

Chris could re-arrange the teams as boys team (Harold, Duncan, Justin) vs girls team (Leshawna, Heather, Courtney, Beth, Lindsay). Sure it's 3 against 5, but there some big chances then Leshawna and Heather might be the nexts to go with high tension between them). On a off-topic note, the TDA Wikipedia entry was often vandalized with a mention of Cody's return, it's very doubtful he could make a comeback althought it would had been nice to see him back as well.

Justin didn't portrayed the vilain in this episode, maybe he keep his next move for the next episode I guess
