Total Drama Action Episode 9 (4/19/09) Talkback

Feel free to discuss the ninth episode of Total Drama Action, which first aired on Teletoon yesterday.

Apparently this episode has a horror movie theme. Last season had a horror movie challenge, and Gwen won by stopping the psycho killer. But she was voted off two episodes ago this season, so I don't know who's going to be the "hero" this episode...

Is it me, or do the Killer Grips really stink? This is the fifth time they lost. It was nice of Lindsay to develop a bossy personality, even if it almost got her eliminated. Since the word is out about DJ and Chef's alliance, DJ votes himself off. There might be tension between the castmates and Chef throughout the remainder of the season.

Saw it.

The episode's name, according to Teletoon, is "The Sand Witch Project".

We found out what the "DJ" stands for this episode. Daven Joseph, I think his name is.

And the Grips do suck. It will be a miracle if they ever win a challenge on their own merits. It doesn't help that, in general, the Gaffers have smarter contestants on their team.

Another cool episode, and its called "The Sand Witch Project" in case you guys were wondering.

  • Oh noes, an intern finally killed Chris  ...no wait, it was just a stunt.
  • Lindsey stood up to the plate and actually acted like a reliable leader for the Grips.
  • Izzy and Owen are in full lovey-dovey mode now with their little make-out session.
  • DJ helps the Gaffers win the challenge, but he feels guilty about his allience with Chef.
  • DJ's actual name is reviled: its 'Devon Joseph'.
  • Soo DJ saw his momma when looking at Heather...Oooookay?
  • Lindsey was about to be voted off due to her 'being bossy'. Geez Killer Grips, its obvious that Lindsey would have helped you win the challenge so why vote her off.
  • DJ finally admits his allience with Chef and 'votes' himself off. :crying: However, everyone (including OWEN!?) says that he shouldn't leave because his cooking is awsome in comparison to Chef's.
  • So DJ leaves and Owen actually barfs at the idea of Chef's cooking (again WHAT?!) Chris: Not the shoes dude!!
  • Chef is probably in some serious **** with the producers now that the allience has been revealed. I wonder what'll happen to him in the next episode. Also why did Chris look so mad since he knew about the allience all along? He was probably just acting so that the producers wouldn't get him for not saying anything.
  • Next episode is an (un)natural disaster episode, and it looks like Owen is going to be in for some trouble.

Okay, I'm good now. :)

Another Horror challenge. Prepare for some scary stuff ahead...maybe.

Kinda random that they're playing a bit of soccer.

Hey, Izzy's doing my bored face! I was expecting Izzy being bored more dramatic, though.

...Or she's tired of hearing food. I really can't tell.

Harold had a wardrobe malfunction.

To think that Beth would have cheerleading potential.

YOINK! :p

AH! A SANDWICH!

A Simpsons' joke somehow came into the show, and Lindsay is protesting against it! :p

Seriously, she's mo?, no doubt about it.

Now Owen's doing my bored face!

I wonder how CN will handle this. Just rate it TV-PG-V, like in Clone Wars. :D

Dibs on everything he has!

So, Chris likes doing stunts or something? Is that bad? :ack:

Looks like Tarantino was involved in this episode.

Get ready for another crazy story by Izzy!

Chris actually interrupted her? And she couldn't do anything about it.

Deal with it, Gaffers. That's Chef Hatchet you guys are backsassing, especially the way he owned Duncan.

...Izzy, you can just tell me why you were just pouting at Owen...

Izzy *is* Ace Ventura!

WHOA! Didn't see that scary face coming.

SERIOUSLY, WHY IS SHE REACTING STRANGELY TO OWEN?!

Yelling randomly gives you respect? Okay.

AH! A SNOT!

FAIL. :p

Everyone hates sudden scares.

I think she made her scream all night long.

Fear DJ's hands!

And now the evil scheming finally begins.

Look carefully at how they're sitting, they look weird.

"Ooh! How horror movie is this! We have to make out..."
Whoa...uh...that...sounded...quite hot, actuallly. :o

"I love this business! Hubba, hubba!" (they start making out)
OH. HELL. YES. And we even see them making out unlike last time! :D

Now Duncan and Heather have to make out, too? I kinda thought Duncan and LeShawna would be better, but what would Harold think?

...Can we go back to Izzy and Owen making out?

That's better.

Okay, they failed, but I'm actually still happy. :)

Chris totally didn't notice that?

I thought DJ's mom didn't die. Or is he just imagining things?

Okay, so, Owen and Izzy are now getting along again. WHAT. Yet earlier on the episode...

Was Izzy toying...with us all along? :ack:

Female security guard? That's kinda uncommon.

No, Justin, she was kill by demons! And then she was a zombie. :p

Oh, I see where this is going. They scare them, they win.

That looks sorta...cheap.

Yes, Lindsay, we like ESPN. ;)

AH! A CRAPPY GHOST!

"How do you like me now, Heather?"
Can I give you a high-five? :anime:

A random kick to the groin is always funny. :p

Devil's Night is just Duncan's way of calling Halloween, I think.

I'm kinda disappointed at the Grips for being so easily scared.

LICK IT!

Lindsay scared Izzy. Oh snap. :ack:

Run for the umpteenth time!

I'm gonna have to give the Gaffers props here. They seriously got them.

Why vote off Lindsay?! She showed seriousness!

Saw that coming. Phew.

This is not the first time this happened to Lindsay. Remember when Izzy was first kicked off in TDI? She got saved in that one, too.

It's a shame to see DJ leave, especially since he was better than Chef at cooking.

I guess Owen got used to DJ's cooking so much, he forgot what Chef's food tastes like. Understandable. :(

Heck, just the thought of Chef's food made Owen puke. Ouch.

On the preview for the next episode:

Wow, this preview is fast and has no sound, but, far as I know, it looks like an obstacle course, and accoring to someone, it's a disaster movie challenge.

Are you talking about the YouTube preview? Because that preview is crappy. Hopefully someone else will upload it for you guys, but in all seriousness there isn't much to say except the teams are going through an obstace course. I guess they don't want to give too much away for the new episode next week (but that's just what I think )

Ok, here are my thoughts on this ep:

1. WOW! Chris' entrance sure looked gory!:eek:I kinda liked the way he explained how it was done.:)

2. It was interesting to learn that Beth can't scream due to a mishap with a tonsillectomy.

3. It was scary to see Chef persuade Duncan to let DJ be the killer.:eek:I kinda thought Izzy would've made a beter killer than Beth. However, Lindsay WAS right to suggest it, since Beth couldn't scream.

4. During the challenge:

a. Justin wasn't even trying to participate.

b. I liked how Leshawna thought DJ was funny as the killer while Lindsay got so scared, her water broke!:p

c. I really loved seeing Owen & Izzy make-out!:anime:

d. I wish I could say the same for Duncan & Heather At least, Chef scared them goodwhen DJ couldn't.

5. During the second part of the challenge where the Killer Grips had to spend the night in a tent:

a. I liked how Lindsay could figure out that the ghost was fake, same thing with the fake blood dripping from the wall.:p

b. I thought the Poltergeist parody was a nice touch!

c. We learn that DJ stands for Devon Joseph.

d. I liked how the Gaffers just left Heather hanging from a wire.

6. During elimination, I'm glad DJ did the right thing by voting himself off and mentioning it was because of his illegal alliance with Chef. His mother would be proud.:) Although, I DO feel sorry for Owen having to stomach Chef's awful cooking again! It was so NOT pretty when Owen puked all over Chris' shoes!:crying:

A good ep. I hope next week's will be just as good.:)

Saw it, enjoyed it.

  • Lindsay tried to step up her game. That's good, after her fallout with Heather, she needs to stand up for herself.
  • I loved the callback to Lindsay peeing in the confession cam last season.
  • Amazingly, no actual callback to Hook, Line, & Screamer. The mask Chef wore (plus a spare) showed up but no actual reference. Unless I'm forgetting something.
  • Izzy can look scary if she wants.
  • [SIGH] The Gaffers won again, what a shock. Well, I got to hand it to them, they executed a nicely done plan with cooperation. Technically, the Gaffers should be disqualified because Chef helped out and he has that aliance with DJ.
  • Even if she was spared, Lindsay didn't deserve to be voted off. Sure, she was tricked by DJ's plan, but cut her some slack.
  • So in the end, two horror episodes, both end with DJ getting voted off and Owen gets to make out with Izzy.
Next Time: Apparently a disaster movie parody. Probably better than Disaster Movie. [RIMSHOT]

Yeah anything is better then
Disaster Movie...

Also
props to Lindsay for finally stepping up and using her mind for the challenges and for taking charge. She could actually be a good leader.

I would rate this episode 9/10.

The reason they keep winning is because their team is composed of determined, focused, competent people while the Grips are not. The Grips have no real leader and no real clue what they're doing.

Most of the people on the Gaffers might not like each other personally but, in a way, that's a good thing because it gets their heads out of the clouds.

I thought their reasoning for voting her off was ridiculous. She was bossy? If it hadn't been for her, they would have lost the challenge a lot sooner since she was the only one (odd as it may be) who remembered to use the ghost detector.

That's a good point, the Grips' line-up does make me think that Trent started to throw challenges when he formed them. But, to me atleast, most of the Gaffers wins so far seem not to rely on skill but more contrived than it should be...
  • Chef switching the scripts by "accident." Despite him reciting the final thoughts of an old irish woman, Duncan still won while Izzy sounded silly. I still think Izzy had a better shot if Chef didn't and I agree with the theory that Chef did that on purpose to help DJ's team/get revenge on Izzy.
  • Trent throwing the dance contest despite being a better dancer than Leshawna. Funny enough, that's the same way the Grips got their only victory so far, only replace Trent with Gwen.
  • The Gaffers finding the rope Chef used to tie up Chris which he just so happened to leave laying around and use them as lassos.
Leshawna's detective work last week was the first victory that didn't strike me like that. And, IIRC, even if Chef hadn't interfered at the end of act one, Heather & Duncan's scream scored higher than Izzy & Owen's. I think that scene was there as for some excuse for DJ to have a vision of his mom scolding him for his alliance.

Also, I'm glad this b-plot was done now before it got dragged out. DJ may still be a mama's boy, but it took guts to stand up to Chef like that.

I disagree, Izzy was going to be voted off that time. She gave the other team advice and cost her team a sure win.

On to my review.

Is just me or did anyone think at the beginning making a point to show DJ sleeping, that his whole episode was going to be a dream of DJ.

Wasn't as scarry as the serial killer episode in season 1, but it had important character development for both DJ and Lindsay.

I thought it was wrong for the Grips to vote off Lindsay for being bossy. Than again, no one really screwed up the challenge this week, so anyone could have been voted off, But still Lindsay was not being bossy, she was showing leadership. She was actully right for once.

Heather was bossy, do they remember how bossy Heather was, Beth most of all should remember Gangus Heather. Also Courtney was bossy, but than again there are no Bass on the Grip team, so they wouldn't know. They cross the line of strong leadership and bossyness. Lindsay didn't come close to be a mini dictator.

But still I enjoyed this episode. This is the second elemination episode in a row, in which someone because of a highly morals contious eleminated themselfs.

Oh yeah, great detective work Lindsay, last week was Lashawna, this week is Lindsay's turn, if Lashawna is Velma, than Lindsay is Nancy Drew.

Till next week.

Maybe Lindsay raised her voice once or twice, can you blame her? I would do the same, especially to that idiot Owen. His cowardly whinning would get on my nerves too. It is like blaming Ralph for yelling at Ed Norton. Who wouldn't lose their cool?

Do I love speculating...

Judging from the preview, I'd say the Grips will lose yet again, Owen will be the main reason of their latest loss, and he'll get the heave-ho. While the obstacle course will be a hassle for both Gaffers & Grips, Owen seems to have the most trouble. The rules of the race might be first team with every member to complete the course wins. And since the Gaffers have less members than the Grips, that might actually be more of an advantage for the former than a disadvantage. My guess is that all of Grips except Owen will finish and he takes forever to finish, giving the Gaffers more than enough time to win yet again.

Also, considering how karma plays a huge role in this, Courtney's arrival will switch the positions for the Grips & Gaffers. Courtney might have an uphill battle since she no one from the Bass are on the team. And if that does happen, I suspect Duncan will get axed next. Courtney will probably be mad at Duncan for hanging out with Gwen so much and Duncan will reveal he picked Harold this season because of how he got Courtney voted off last season. Harold & Leshawna would get made and all it takes is their votes to send the punk packing. Then Heather & Leshawna will fight over Harold. And that's all I can think of at this point.

Of course, this is just speculation.

Actually, Don, we all do. :rolleyes2:

Hmm...for some reason, it'd be interesting if Owen's voted off, because I would like to see Izzy's reaction should that happen.

Unfortunatly, Justin could pull a Harold and send Izzy packing instead...oh dear God, I really don't want that happening. :ack:

Or, it could have an epic finish, with the Grips winning somehow. They can't lose forever.

If they do win, something tells me it'll be a filler.

Crap. There goes all the fun planning.

So much for being excited, now I'm nervious again. I can't see the Gaffers losing at all, and even if they did, they would only have 3 people, which really wouldn't be fair.
