torrent uploading lawsuit?

i got a letter in the mail the other day saying that i was caught uploading a copyrighted movie as a torrent. i always thought that you would get a letter from your IPS before anything else and everything i have read on the internet has confirmed that. the letter says i need to pay 800 Euros within a week or the fine will increase. the letter came from a law firm or something so i am wondering is this a scam? did someone track my IP address and scamming me or is this legit? because i havent heard anything from my ISP. if this is legit should i pay it? i dont mind paying the 800 Euros but if i do is that a confession of guilt and will they come after me for more?

go over it with your attorney if you have one, research the address that the letter was from, check on identity-searching websites (the official, legal ones) and make sure that the address is not a residential or overseas one. if its an address of a business, attorney, or a specific company then try contacting them and calling for additional details and arranging a payment if necessarily. you might also contact the website's company and checking the website's policy (the site you downloaded the copyrighted movie to). good luck and best wishes.
