Topics/Events in history?

I was starting a band with a few friends. We decided that we would use history as one of our major themes in song writing. I was wondering if anyone had any cool idea for song topics.
I heard about something in austrailia i think called the stolen generation. That seemed like a cool idea although i dont know much about the topic at all. if anyone could clerify this or even just give me a link to somewhere it would help as well.

The stolen generation was the generation of Australian Aborigines who were taken from their families by the government so that they could be "civilized" (i.e.: Westernized). There are parallels in other countries where ethnic groups have been subjected to attempts to erase language and culture. The system of residential schools that were set up in Canada is another example of this. In both cases the result was that the children who were raised by these regimes did not fit into either the dominant culture or their own indigenous culture, they were caught between two worlds and often rejected by both.
