Top kill procedure to cut off gushing oil well supposedly under way .

I hope it doesn't work and the oil spews out for hundreds if not thousands of years to make humans remember how they are destroying the earth.
 
They were discussing a 45Kip kick that hit the bottom side of the well. I did some math with what was going on and I figured it would be in a 6k to 10k range. regardless, I assume with the kick size, there was not much time to react. Having a BOP that seemed to be in half assed condition.... just a domino rally of bad things happening.
 
Yeah, at a 2,000psi change, it blows my mind they had a kick of 45 Kips.

I would shit my pants if I saw that on the cellar deck of that platform.

I wish we could find out what guy decided to make that call. He is the one at hand for generating this mess, given that was the accident what happened. Even if there were ZERO issues on the BOP, it could not adjust to slow down that kind of pressure differential.

Human error is the main rumor that caused the blowout. Stopped mud injection and started brine (Saltwater solution) too early in the concrete completion stage. That caused the pressure differential and it led to the blowout.

Doing this properly is paramount to preventing a blowout.
 
Luckily it is near/at the mouth of the Mississippi... where hardly anything can live there anyways.
