'Top kill' fails, BP moves on 'to next option'

No, there is more than just one failsafe. I work in the subsea construction industry and we develope oil and gas fields in depths of 9,000+ ft with no issues. We have countless back up plans and failsafes just incase. The mms and iso stuff require that we do.

Instead of laughing, try using some intellect and make a difference. If you care enough, join the industry and create a change. Everyone out here is working our asses off to get this resolved.

Not to mention it fucking couldnt even stay down there that long before automatically going back up

Its amazing to me that Obama is catching shit for this.

If you faggots want to stop drilling in the gulf for oil, we need to start drilling on land for natural gas. The Marcellus Shale in PA and NY has more energy in it than all the oil in Saudi Arabia.

Well obviously he would have shut down the flow by now, DUH. How? Pft, if you have to ask, you're not smart enough to understand.

I'm surprised that these highly-paid engineers couldn't foresee or simulate the environment they were working in well enough to design working failsafes and backup plans.

Seems like they're doing everything on the fly right now.

They just need a big ass turbo and nos to push a lot of PSI to overcome the oil pressure.

Well I do recall them mentioning something about hydrostatic pressure being .5 psi/ft, and since the well begins at 5,000 ft below the surface of the water, and continues downward for an additional 13,000 ft, that's 18k ft right there.

13,000 x .5 = 6,500 psi, plus a bunch of other variables that I can't recall.

Maybe it was the water gradient with .433 psi / sq ft... I don't know. That shit is all way over my head.

wow, now he's interviewing some govt official and he's all flip flopped over to BP's side and acting like a twat to this govt bitch

"oh so the govt is going to tell BP what to do huh? yeah yeah! tell me what the govt has made BP do that they didnt want to! ha!"

people are upset about the barnet shale up here in north texas.

also, why not? everything was bush's fault, everything can be obama's fault too. fucking double standards.

Who would have thought? Oh yeah BP, since they tried the exact same thing last time this happened in 1979...

cliffs: Oil well is leaking in gulf of mexico in june 1979, they tried dropping chemicals, they put up booms, they tried a top kill and it didn't work, eventually they drilled relief wells and fixed the leak, 9 months after the leak started.
