Surely in the brazillions of OT'ers that use this forum, there must be a couple of Metallica fans? Hope so.
If you are, then name your five favourite songs. I ask that if you name ANYTHING from St. Anger, then you look for the "Nu Metal Posers" thread; there must be one here somewhere.
With that aside, I'll begin.
5) Master of Puppets - First song I learnt on guitar, an absolute classic. First time I was ever exposed to 'Thrash Metal' as we know it, so it made a lasting impression.
4) Disposable Heroes - If I ever took the time to go into "On Topic" I would be known (after being avatar-less and therefore a peon) as someone who is very much anti-war. This sums up the manipulation of the common man by his master into a war machine. Add some sweet riffery and rhythm play (and a kickass solo) you've got one of the best songs on "Master of Puppets".
3) Green Hell - Shows Metallicas' punkier and more aggressive roots. It's just like a stream of consciousness. Excellent song.
2) Creeping Death / One - TIE! I'm not much of a fan of AJFA as I am of the other albums (the production has me) but One is definitely more of a progressive track than the rest of the album. Favourite solo is at the end of that song. Creeping Death is just another reason why "Ride The Lightning" is my favourite album.
1) Ride The Lightning - I preferred Metallicas' more raw, aggressive stance towarRAB anything that was worth talking about. It takes on the form of a man set into the electric chair, one of the best-written songs Metallica have. It's my favourite song because it's both lyrically and musically excellent.
Honourable mentions go to: The Four Horsemen, Fight Fire With Fire, Leper Messiah, Damage Inc, The Shortest Straw, and Dyer's Eve.
