Top Animated Films get a fresh re-catergorization.

What idiots had Kung Fu Panda at #2? It's only been out a short time, but doesn't deserve that high a ranking. They do have a few anime movies on there.

The only real gripe I have with this is the fact that Kung Fu Panda, being so recent, got so high on the list. I mean, #2? If it's that good, then I seriously do have to see it sometime.

That's what you get when you let Mr. and Mrs. Mainstream vote on anything. What popular at this very second is what gets voted the best of everything.

Sad, really.

"Kung-Fu Panda" is #2? Granted, I haven't seen the movie yet so I can't pass judgement on it, but somehow I doubt that it deserves to be that high. Of course, if you ask me, "Cars" doesn't really belong in the top 10 either.

Nice to see "Persepolis" on the list. I was lucky to see it in the theaters when I visited my aunt in France and despite the fact that one particular scene made me feel sick (I have a weak stomach, so sue me) I still enjoyed the movie. Although, I would say that the original comic was a tad bit better and I'm saying that as someone who saw the movie first.

Though Kung Fu Panda's gotta be the best animated movie of the year (so far), It doesn't deserve to be on that list.

How come Who Framed Roger Rabbit's never on these lists? Is it too old for our mainstream audience?

I would say because a lot of Roger Rabbit is live action, but then I notice that Enchanted made number 10 on the Yahoo poll:

Translation: people will vote for whatever is still floating around in their short attention span of the last year or so, even if it doesn't make sense.

That ridiculous list is basically just a who's who of what what's been hot with the mainstream audience in the past 4 or 5 years, with Lion King, Nightmare and an anime thrown in there for good measure. And if that includes all four of the most recent Pixar films, then so be it. And of course there's nothing there older than the early 1990s, which is just pathetic.

Really, this whole thing is so lame that I'm surprised people are discussing it like it actually means anything. The entire thing is designed for tweens and soccer moms who probably have no idea who Tim Burton, Brad Bird, John Lasseter, or Hayao Miyazaki even are. This poll should have been re-named "Top Ten Brat Badysitter DVDs That Little Johnny Watches Over and Over."

I haven't seen Kung Fu Panda either but most of the top 10 doesn't seem right to me. Everyone seems to be prefering the CGI route rather than (in my opinion) the more magical animation of hand drawn work. And the older stories are usually better. And I agree with where's Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Also everyone seems to forget American Tail.

We haven't forgotten American Tail. I'm sure all of us here remember it well. But John and Jane Middle Class Everyamerican probably doesn't even realize it exists because the DVD isn't on a shelf in their 4 year old's playroom.

Again, Kung Fu Panda is the second greatest animated film ever accord to the people on Yahoo? That's just sad in ways I can't begin to put into words. It's brand new and every 6 year old in America thinks it's awesome. And parents are familiar with it only because they've probably just been dragged to it by their kids, perhaps multiple times.

It's basically this scenario: a mother who probably doesn't know a darn thing about cartoons comes home after a hard day of doing what working class mainstream America does and takes a few minutes to relax by the computer, probably for a quick IM chat with another mom or some ebay/Amazon shopping. She stumbles across this Yahoo poll and votes for Kung Fu Panda soley because she just took little Jimmy to see it last weekend and then bought him some Kung Fu Panda toys at McDonalds.
