I dunno about that, but basically it uses a capacitor that discharges onto an inductor which controls a switch that opens or closes if the voltage is too high or too low. The C discharges when the voltage gets too high and opens the switch to compensate. Then the inductor weakens until the spring powered switch closes again and repeat.

I don't understand how that works though. Energy band equilibrium in the zener should allow charge tunneling both directions, basically turning the diode into a two-way conductor.
