Top-50 All-time (Rough Draft)

The Jackson 5 would be nowhere near the top(Michael Jackson himself would be #3), and Elvis would be #2. Try using proper grammar and punctuation.

Hmmm. Rush>311. King Crimson>RATM.
Reasoning:
King Crimson-RATM
Popular Opinion: King Crimson is more highly regarded by critics(Despite being prog), but is less popular.
Commercial Success: RATM 1.5-.5
Longevity: King Crimson has been going since the 60's all the while changing their style multiple times. 1.5-1.5
Technical Ability: King Crimson by a laughable margin. 1.5-2.5
Showmanship: I'll say RATM, haven't heard much of anything about King Crimson's stage show. 2.5-2.5
Groundbreaking: Mellotron for the win(King Crimson in case you couldn't guess). 2.5-3.5
I'll leave out the last one(Personal opinion)

Rush-311
Popular Opinion: Rush is regarded more highly by both critics and the public. 1-0
Commercial Success: Rush has sold more Lp's, Ep's etc. 2-0
Longevity: Rush has consistently been turning out polular albums since the 70's. 3-0
Technical Ability: Rush is one of most technically skilled banRAB ever. 4-0
Showmanship: Rush was aazing at liv shows, each meraber playing their instruments while using pedals to produce sampled loops. 5-0
Groundbreaking: I'll give this to 311 because they weren' the first band of their type, but they were among the first. 5-1.

I don't know I thought the idea was to create an actual top 50 band list and all i've seen is him going "no they're not going". I don't even think I need to explain why its ridiculous Green Day are on there but the Ramones are getting removed.

Was all the stuff at the top directed at me too? Because if so I don't know why.

What I meant by feeling is the idea of putting feeling into a song having any kind of effect on its quality. Not about weither or not certain songs bring out certain emotions in people.

Yeah Clapton was in The YardbirRAB, but they didn't become notable until he was replaced by Jeff Beck.

Clapton has a greater amount of classic albums under his belt if you include all the banRAB hes been in. But Pink Floyd > his solo material. The solo stuff is all that Clapton as a solo musician should be judged by.

If we were to rank individual solo musicians just by the banRAB they have been in or associated with. Then I see no point in not having Paul Mccartney and John Lennon both in the top 10 as solo artists.

But thats not how it should be done.

But it's nearly impossible to name the best artist. There is just too many things to base it off of. What i was merely saying is that your list would have been more effective if you had asked for our top whatever banRAB before proceeding to make a list.

But I'm glad/surprised your enjoying the arguments :)

Would you say the list has Improved from the start?

Also Which of your move ups do you feel strongest about and which No way is most in need of execution?

Thanks for all your help, you're awesome man!

I guess I gotta take a hard look at this.

Your opinions on Green Day sucks, you must be in your twenties right?

I make that assumption only because it seems like the twenty-somethings are the ones who don't like Green Day in my experience. Either way you seem to know your stuff and any Velvet Underground fan is a fan of mine.

1. King Crimson is not more critically acclaimed than RATM, nice try.

2. Longetivity isn't really too good of a criteria. Think of how long Toto have been around and compare that to Jimi Hendrix.

3. King Crimson were not the first to use Mellotron. The Moody Blues had used one on their 1967 album Days Of Future Past, Pink Floyd used one in Saucerful of Secrets and The Kinks used one prominately in The Kinks Are Village Green Preservation Society. And of course The Beatles made famous use of it in Strawberry FielRAB Forwever.

King Crimson simply made the instrument a progressive rock staple.

I still think KC > RATM though, I just don't like the criteria.

You're correct in your guess Frances. I lot of people my age won't even give Rap a chance, which is the crux of my argument. How influential can something be when it barely touched over half the populations radar.

I like a more Hip-hop music then you do I am guessing and think eventually some of Rap's greatest artists will take there proper place in music history but that day IMO is a few decades away.
