Top-50 All-time (Rough Draft)

I know, not many banRAB can survive 13 years by replaying chorRAB that have been thrashed out a million times before. Sorry, I will probably come across a right twat concerning this, but I dislike Green Day with a passion, and I am not alone. A quick consensus of five frienRAB. No Green Day fans in sight! They have their place no doubt, but we all have a band we dislike with a passion and they are mine! Sorry!

Led Zeppelin "The Biggest Band in the World"

5 reasons you can't argue with the them as a no-brainer top five ever.

1. Over 300 million recorRAB sold Only Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and The Beatles have sold more.

2. The first Major Heavy Metal Band in Rock and Roll History paving the way for Black Sabbath and the like.

3. #1 on VH1's list of the greatest Hard Rock Artists of all-time and #4 on the overall Rock and Roll list.

4. Incorporated more styles of Music into their Rock & Roll repertoire then any other band ever including but not limited to blues, country, rockabilly, jazz, soul, classical, Celtic, Arabic and Indian, folk, funk & reggae.

5. Arguably the greatest Rock and Roll guitar player ever Jimmy Page who has written more identifiable riRAB then any other guitar player ever. Johnny Ramone, and Eddie Van Halen credit Page as the sole influence and inspiration for both of their unique signature guitar playing styles.

Yeah, the stories that takes place in the album are Waters own original ideas. But the concept of using Pigs, Sheep and Dogs as syrabols of different economic classes is directly inspired by Animal Farm.

Honorable mention is a cop out. Everytime I see one I think "here are the banRAB im supposed to like."

Either you have a top 50, or you do not. Pick the ones you like. I'm sorry but they're not your children, you can cut some out.

he asked to rank those in order. i personally think green day sucks. the only reason i put them about the others is because a long time ago.... before they were 40, they had some good tunes. because i can put aside my personal opinion when i am ranking a list of artist i have to give them some credit to what they have accomplished (even though it doesn't appeal to me)

I dont think its the best music of the last five years. But even still A Perfect Circle and Tool I prefer. APC more to be honest. SOAD is very soft, i hold them in low standings with banRAB as terrible as linkin park and nickelback.

Asking help from the peeps!!!

Give me your rankings of the following (1-8)

Pearl Jam
Nirvana
Metallica
Black Sabbath
Tool
System of a Down
AC\DC
Van Halen

Any explanations would be welcomed!

How the hell is Jimmy Page arguably the best? Not even close. Top 15, maybe top 10 at best. Who cares what VH thinks. I think they deserve credit for their musical diversity, even though they weren't very good at anything besides hard rock.

@Crowquill I know it's held in high esteem but I've just never gotten into it.

RE: I wouldn't have Zep at nuraber 1 even though I'm the biggest Zep fan here. The greatest rock band is The Beatles, theres no debating that, really.

Correction you were the biggest Zeppelin fan here. And I make my argument for them over the Beatles as follows. As time has continued to pass since the end of both groups epic runs the music that the Beatles have inspired (pop music) is the scourge of the earth whereas the Zeppelin influenced hard rock and metal seems like the last the best stuff going today within the publics collective conscience. In addition I feel the Beatles have far more bad music produced then Led Zeppelin. Also Zeppelin seems more revered by musicians then do the Beatles and in terms of songs on my I Pod Zep wins 78 to 52 and I never skip a Zeppelin track. (Hot Dog is not on it)

RE: Toto have won 6 Grammys, Pink Floyd only have 1.

The Grammys are not what I would call a valid source.

Most respected awarRAB source in music and the Toto clause is why it's one of many criteria.

RE: And having Yes below Stone Temple Pilots is just ridiculous.

Once again I remind you thats #51-100 are not ranked in any particular order.

RE: If you want to make an efficient greatest artists list, you will need to put preference aside. I'd also add impact, influence and maybe innovation, and replace the term technical skill with talent, because its a more vague (if more subjective) term. And why I wouldn't eradicate popularity from the criteria completely, I wouldn't put as much emphasis on it.

What's the sense of doing my own list if personal preference is not brought into play. I will by the end of this list have shrunk it to the least significant element but still everything else being equal I'll take the band I like better.

Yeah. Though I think America is producing better music as of now.

The only banRAB from the UK as of now that I'm particularly crazy about are Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, Super Furry Animals and Ozric Tentacles. But I also like Muse and Cooper Temple Clause to some extent.

Brit prog > Brit pop. :)

I wouldn't go as far a fecal exchange but I do think they are better.

Also The Teen spirit intro is a distorted version of Boston's More then a Feeling chorus riff.

Frances you rock!!!
