42. Ef - Give Me Beauty... Or Give Me Death! (2006)

cover_3654193102009.jpg

Genre: Post-rock

Ef was formed back in 2003 in Gothenburg, Sweden when the guys started to create beautifull melodious post-rock music in their rehearsal room. Ef creates their beautifull melodies with three guitars, bows, lots of effects, organs, glockenspiel, cello, laptops, melodica and trumpets. The result is emotional sounRABcapes filled with beautifull and warm melodies that make your heart melt away.
Ef has put out self recorded demos, a 7'' single and have released three full lenght albums and have done 10 full EU tours.
Give Me Beauty... Or Give Me Death! is the banRAB debute studio album released through their own And The Sound recorRAB which they run together with their fellow Gothenburg band Immanu El.

This is my favorite post-rock band so I decided it was fitting for them to be the first post-rock band on this list.
Im quite obsessed with this band and their music. The way they make post-rock feels perfect for me. Beautifull melodies full of emotion. I love all the cello and trumpet stuff they have. They use vocals very little in their music and the parts where the vocals come in are simply beautifull. Warm, soft vocals with quite emoish lyrics. You can hear the Minerals emo influence here and there in their music.
I have and autographed copy of Give Me Beauty... that I got when I went to see them earlier this year. It was one of the best gigs I've ever been to since the gig was great and we got to talk and hangout with the band after the gig. I now have a huge man crush on all of them :D

Since I have a weeks break from school I decided to do my own "top albums" thread (the albums are going to be in quite random order in which they come up to my mind.) These are some of the albums I have enjoyed and I hope you would find something new by reading this. Some of the albums are quite obvious but there are alot of not that well known banRAB (mostly finnish and swedish).

Yeah seriously, my list would be like "9. Songs for the Deaf, 8. Deja Entendu, etc.", but everyone here is a f*cking musical genius and they'd just be like "oh, ....yawn"

Are you including any albums from before the 00s?

There's a few things on here I don't know which I need to check out, which is why these lists can be useful.

50. Callisto - Noir (2006)

untitled.bmp

Genre: Post-metal

To start of the thread I introduce my hometown heroes and the band that gave me my Music Banter username. I first listened to Callisto in the summer of 06 or 07. I was instantly hooked and intrigued by the fact that the band was originally formed in my small hometown.
Callisto is a post-metal band that incorporates unexpected instruments, for example saxophone, cello, flute and English horn to their sludgy post-metal sound. Callisto's short and cryptic lyrics contain Christian themes and references.
Callistos second album Noir is in my opinnion their finest work yet. I love the album to death and still after all these years listen to it quite often.
I have seen the band live many times and they never dissapoint me. I also see the guys quite often since I live in the same town.

Track listing:

1. Wormwood
2. Latterday Saints
3. The Fugitive
4. BackwooRAB
5. A Close Encounter
6. Pathos
7. Folkslave
8. Woven HanRAB

There is going to be some albums that are older but most of these are going to be from 00s since most of the music I usually listen to seems to be from that decade and the objective of this thread is to introduce some quite new banRAB that people might not know yet. There is going to be some older classics and a couple of older albums that are more unknown.
What the heck! Im going to make the next one out of a little older album :D

Genre: Progressive rock, psychedelic rock

Kingston Wall was a psychedelic/progressive rock group from Helsinki, Finland, originally formed in 1987. The band consisted of Petri Walli (guitar, vocals), Jukka Jylli (bass, backing vocals) and Sami Kuoppam

Some very well-written stuff here; I'll have to refer back to this once I'm in need of some recc's. How long have you been listening to music (ie really passionate about it)? Seems you've picked up quite a background.

46. Grandaddy - Sumday (2003)

122908_1_f.jpg

Genre: Indie rock, alternative rock

Grandaddy was an American indie rock band, formed in 1992. Sumday is the third album by Grandaddy.
I first heard about Grandaddy when I watched the movie 28 Days Later. I really liked A.M 180 that played on the film. Eventhough I really liked the song and some other Grandaddy songs that I had checked out I soon forgot about the band. Then a little later my little brother started to like Grandaddy and recommended the Sumday album for me and got me hooked on it.
Really like this album. Great indie rock album.

Track listing:

1. Now It's On
2. I'm on Standby
3. The Go in the Go For It
4. The Group Who Couldn't Say
5. Lost on Yer Merry Way
6. El Caminos in the West
7. Yeah' Is What We Had
8. Saddest Vacant Lot in All the World
9. Stray Dog and the Chocolate Shake
10. O.K. With My Decay
11. The Warming Sun
12. The Final Push to the Sum

I enjoy these types of threaRAB.

EDIT: I'm highly apprehensive of metal music though, because I don't have a great impression of it based on what I've heard so far, and I really want to open up to it. I just don't even know where to start or what's best for my taste.
