Just thought it might be nice to discuss it :) These are my favourites from the list, with the actual placings in brackets:

1. Pump Up the Volume (38)
2. Sneakers (18)
3. Ice Storm, The (61)
4. Fresh (72) (1994)
5. People vs. Larry Flynt, The (84)

'Pump up The Volume' is my favourite Christian Slater film and seriously rocks, whilst 'Fresh' is the film that Spike Lee has been trying to make for the past 20 years now :D
 
I loved "Topsy-Turvy" - here's my top five from the list...

2. The Secret of Roan Inish (86)
3. The Limey (49)
4. Darkman (67)
5. Richard III (42)
 
errm IM not sure whether this was over looked, because I would have been too young to watch this when it came out, but i have just recently watched it and its a great fillm, its Human Traffic!
 
Didn't like Human Traffic all that much - it was too hyper for its own good! I hear that the re-edited version does improve it quite a bit though!
 
1. SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (how this film won NO Oscars is beyond me)
2. DONNIE DARKO (even i missed this at the cinema, then watched the DVD, Strangley i still don't get much of the film, but i enjopy watching it)

1. I don't think Shawshank would qualify as even though it didn't win oscars that doesn't really count as overlooked as it did gain recognition.

Donnie darko also came extremely popular on dvd/video, and wasn't released in the ninties.
 
Shawshank only got its recognition when it was released on DVD/ video I think. Although(so smug here) having read the book (also superb) I knew it would be great.
 
I reckon that October Sky was a remarkable story of determination to make your way in life and fight for what you want against the odRAB. It had me in tears in a few places. Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Cooper gave outstanding performances and the film deserved much more recognition.

I also think that Before Sunrise was a fabulous piece of spellbinding storytelling. The way Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy carried a movie on their conversations after meeting as strangers is absolutely delightful. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am anticipating the sequel (which has taken 9 years) - Before Sunset :) :)
 
Of course, you mean you read the novella! ;)

Did you wish they'd left the end of the film the same as the story? Where you never actually know... (doubt whether there's anyone who hasn't seen the film, but just in case I'll be vague for those poor souls).

Must admit thought there's so many films on that list that I've never heard of. I'll have to hunt them down.
 
A lot of these US films in the list deserved to stay overlooked. Over promoted films that didnt live up to the promise of the trailers.
Two that I did enjoy.

Well, it's from 'Different Seasons' which contains four stories: Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil, The Body (Stand By Me) and The Breathing Method. Three great tales, and one awful one.

If you remember the film then right at the end when Red's on the bus, end it there. No beach etc. That's how the story enRAB so I'm sure you can understand now why I say "You never actually know..."
