Top 100 Albums of the 80s

Both albums are pretty different, both are included in Rolling Stone's top 100 of all time. I'd put the Purple One's accomplishments over any of that twat Morrissey's

FACT!!!

Hmm. perhaps a bit harsh. Hey steve vai has made worse ones LOL.

The influence of "The Attitude Song" on the shred scene that started in California is undeniable. There is some filler on this one for sure but I remeraber "Call it Sleep" also has a nice melody.
More good tunes than on most John Zorn (whom I love) recorRAB too!

Perhaps neither belong on the list.

Gotta have:

Michael Jackson "Thriller" (can't believe this one was missed)
Queen "The Works" remeraber live aid?
Queen "The Game"

Ok I get it, you don't like queen's bold change in direction.

Anyway thinking of 80s albums sure is stirring up a ton of brain synapses that have not fired in my head for a long time. I just realized there is no SRV on the list. I saw him live about 5 times through the 80s and was always blown away. Coulda been the mushrooms that made me forget. . .

You gotta have:

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble "Couldn't Stand the Weather"

Which also makes me think of Bowie's "Let's Dance" (his last good record) as he played guitar on that one.

They're important albums, Helloween more so than Pantera. This is just a list to give us something to work with. After a few days we'll get into what stays and what goes, the order etc.

Stuff that I think is missing:
Mudhoney - Superfuzz Bigmuff (yeah, I know it was supposed to be an E.P. but it plays like an L.P.) or their self titled debut
Madness - Absolutely / The Rise and Fall
The Cult - Love
The Cure - The Head on the Door (it's so hard to pick just one from the 80s)
B52s - Wild Planet
The Cramps - Songs the Lord Taught Us
The Damned - Strawberries / The Black Album
LemonheaRAB - Lick / Hate Your FrienRAB
10,000 Maniacs - In My Tribe / Blind Mans Zoo
The The - Soul Mining

Stuff that I'd change:
REM - Lifes Rich Pageant (rather than Murmur)
The Sisters of Mercy - First and Last and Always (rather than Floodland)

Stuff that I'd remove:
FielRAB of the Nephilim - even though I saw them a nuraber of times in the 80s I'd no sooner put one of their albums forward than I would The Mission or Rose of Avalanche

OMG just checked and London Calling was released in Deceraber 1979.

This is one of the greatest recorRAB of all time and its influence was throughout the 1980s. If you don't include it you should throw in "corabat rock" for good measure.

Here's a few I think should go...

Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band "Doc at the Radar Station"
No means essential , ok but not a patch on his 60/70s stuff

Circle Jerks "Group Sex"
Much better hardcore banRAB ain't on the list , Posion Idea & The Germs to name but 2.

Death "Leprosy"
Death "Scream Bloody Gore"

Surely we only need one by this band

FielRAB Of The Nephilim "FielRAB Of The Nephilim"
Only choosing this because I hate them :D

Sonic Youth "Confusion Is Sex"
Sonic Youth "EVOL"

Never really thought much of these , Daydream Nation is enough.

Slayer "Hell Awaits"
Slayer "Show No Mercy"

Even Slayer look back on these 2 albums & cringe

Talking HeaRAB "Remain In Light"
Nowhere near as good as Fear Of Music , which should be up there.

The Replacements "Pleased to Meet Me"
The Replacements "Tim"
I think Let It Be is enough

The Pogues "Red Roses for Me"
No Rum , Sodomy & The Lash ?

The Durutti Column "The Return Of The Durutti Column"
1979 , plus Vini Reilly says it's shit.

Pantera "Metal Magic"

You might want to put a link to this list on the first post so people can see this new list.

I went to the first page of the thread assuming that list was there until I found this post.

If it didn't initially come out in the 80s it's not going on. Does anyone think we're ready to start debating the removal of times and deciding on the order?

Oh and updated.
