Top 10 Sci Fi Films

Last time I saw it was about 5 years ago (on one of the sky movie channels) in B & W.I think I've seen it in colour though.

The scene in the web is probably one of cinema's most famous scenes and more iconic than any scene in the remake.Like many 50's sci fi movies,the SFX have dated a great deal wheras the remake looks mostly quite fresh in that respect.

Some films don't diminish with time. I still can't watch "Freaks" ,I last saw it when I was 8:eek:

I didn't know the web scene was famous! Pretty gross though unless i'm misremembering
 
Actually, I'd have to disagree with you there, I could reel off 50 great horror films with no effort but finding any more than 20 or so great sci-fi films would be a challenge. They just don't seem to make 'em anymore. The last decent sci-fi film I saw was Cloverfield (is that a sci-fi?) and that wouldn't necessarily make it into my personal top 20 (it was good but not great).

It's a shame that more aren't made. The 70's was definitely the best era for sci-fi IMO.
 
I find that there's a cross-over line between Sci-Fi and Horror. Most of my favourite Sci-Fi films have been posted on this thread already. Is The Forgotton Horror or Sci-Fi? I'd lean towarRAB Sci-Fi but it could easily be classed in the Horror genre.

Yep, I generally don't mind cross overs but it's sort of diluted the genre, it also has to share a bed with the Fantasy genre these days too (hence Film 4 getting away with showing Batman as 'sci-fi'), much to it's detriment IMO. It's a pity they don't make challenging sci-fi anymore....or 'challenging' anything come to think of it.

I love The Andromeda Strain ,2001: A Space Odyssey , Dark Star ,silent running and Demon seed (not many people have heard of it).
Sci-fi films are great but i'm not into Star wars type films , I prefer films that make you think.
 
To be honest I'm not entirely sure. I saw the trailer for it the other day and all I remember seeing on it was clips of Planet of The Apes (again) and Batman films. I'm sure there were a few more in there but it was just the usual films they tend to show anyway I think, nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary. A missed opportunity. :mad:

I've looked on the channel 4 website and theres no info on the sci -fi season, unless I missed it.

I've checked wiki, apparently they had a sci-fi season last year too, I vaguely remember that, heres the list from that -

If you're going to have a Star Trek film, then make it the Wrath of Khan....

And, the matix should be there...but only the first one please.
