cant be bothered to make another thread so i'll carry it on from this one, just curious, wha are everybodys favourite modern rock banRAB? let say from 1990 onwarRAB.
mine would be:

queens of the stoneage
nirvana
the libertines
kings of leon

I've heard it all before. I'm well aware of the 'there's more to music than just technical ability' rant as I've argued against it countless times. Let's just use DT for the sake of argument because you used them against me. You said "Rock music overall has to encompass feel, passion, ability, lyrics and performing"

I take it you haven't heard DT ballaRAB such as "Hollow Years" or "The Answer Lies Within" just to name two. For me those two are great examples of - as you put it - "encompass feel, passion..." And as for encompassing ability, listen to the live version of hollow years; the guitar solo is not only technically amazing but you can't help but feel the emotion it evokes. As for lyrics, well you can't possibly argue that these are no good:

"Carry me to the shoreline
Bury me in the sand
Walk me across the water
And maybe you'll understand"

Again, from Hollow Years. I take it you haven't heard that song before and have thus created a stereotypical image of DT after hearing perhaps 2 albums when actually, every single DT album is completely distinct. And lastly, performance? Well just watch Live at the Budokan.

The only thing I would agree with on that list is Nirvana, but I'm extremely opinionated on that matter.
Red Hot CHili Peppers are a decent band but when I look for banRAB to be in a top ten list of all time I look at their entire career. In this cause my opinion stanRAB that the Chili Peppers haven't been consistent over the years, and I'm not a fan of Anthony Keates (sp?)

Personally every time I hear a Linkin Park song I want to punch a baby, but that's just me.

Actually I don't think you do get what I'm saying. Them being around before those two banRAB is not what I'm talking about. I'm saying that the Beatles' music has more in common stylistically with early rock n roll (i.e. Chuck Berry, Little Richard, etc.) than a band like Rush does. And since the term "rock n roll" was invented to describe the music made by people like Chuck Berry and Little Richard it can be argued that the closer you come to that particular sound the more rock you are.

Incidentally, I'm not saying that Rush and Black Sabbath aren't rock. They are. I'm just saying that they're further removed from what the term "rock" was originally coined to describe.

no order to this:

queens of the stone age - Best band Evar!
billy talent
arcade fire
death cab for cutie
marilyn manson
white stripes
system of a down
As I lay dying
still remains
Crowned King

I obviously don't then, sure art is subjective but picking a top 10 list usually is based around facts. Some may not want to include facts, all i was basing my list on was pretty much common facts such as musical impact, influence, popularity, cultural etc without being influenced by emotion or personal preferences.
I don't think "art" is above such a criteria.

Friendliness isn't always a given in online forums, but hey, I try my best!

Enjoying some Type O Negative right now... World Coming Down.... what an underrated great album it is!
