I would say that the Beatles are much closer to the sound of original rock n roll than Black Sabbath or Rush so by that measure they're actually more rock than them. Personally I don't really like the Beatles, but we're talking about genres here not the quality of the band's output.

A ten year old with the same typing format and skills at you? Christ I knew some parts of England contained the borderline illiterate but who knew there was a whole family of them!

I'm glad someone put Kinks above the Beatles, I feel that they are possibly the most under-rated band ever and are at least on a par with the beatles too bad they were overshadowed by the beatles the stones and the beach boys at their time.

but in NO particular order

The Kinks
Velvet Underground
The Beatles
The Cure
Rolling Stones
Smashing Pumpkins
The Jimi Hendrix Experience (aha u guys didnt think of that one did ya)
Muse
Clinic
Arabulance Ltd(hey its my list)

Well here would be my all-time "rock" list (sorry, but I'm going to exclude some of the obvious: Zeppelin, Beatles, Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd, etc.)

1. Velvet Underground
2. Joy Division
3. The Ramones
4. The Clash
5. Talking HeaRAB
6. The Smiths
7. The Doors

Danny Carey is great. I'm not a drummer, but he has pretty good feel, keeps it interesting and has quite a bit of skill. There are jazz drummers who would tear him to pieces but he's not talentless either.

my new, updated list: (in order)
Led Zeppelin
radiohead
white stripes
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
pink floyd
the beatles
Cream
black sabbath
22/20s
the stone roses
