Yeah that's right, I'm going to go from 2007 backwarRAB. Get ready bitches.
10. The Raveonettes "Lust Lust Lust (2007)"
Less Ronettes, more Jesus and Mary Chain. I'm saddened by the lack of attention this received but considering how (not so) good Pretty in Black was I can understand it, sort of. Check it out and while you're listening to them look at how amazing their influences are. The Smiths, The Clash, The Cramps, My Bloody Valentine, Jesus and Mary Chain, Sonic Youth, Bob Dylan, Primal Scream, The Velvet Underground, David Bowie, Suicide, Atari Teenage Riot, etc. Where I'm going with this is uh you can't go wrong raiding their mixed tapes. Favorite Song: Black Satin
This album is like a giant biographical awesome movie with its songs about cult pornstar Shannon Wisley to poet John Berryman. Will Sheff weaves you an album of stories, scenes and clever pop culture references that most screen writers would jump up and down for; the way he seems to paint a sonic movie is brilliant and the rest of the band show themselves much more dynamic and cohesive than ever before which results in one of their finest albums to date. It rocks, it weeps, it dances, welcome to the Stage Names. Favorite Song: John Allyn Smith Sails
You guys ready for this? I'm starting early and going forward and hoping to wrap this up by the end of 2008 with the 2008 list.
1940-1962
10. Etta James "At Last!"
Okays I don't have much to say on this other then when I heard A Sunday Kind of Love I was completely blown away. My chill brah Unkie Clamz showed it to me when we were talking about something. He also showed me a bunch of other stuff that'll probably appear in here. So yeah you don't really have a heart if it doesn't touch you.
I'll finish it at some point, Knocked Out Loaded, Down in the Groove and Under the Red Sky are pretty mediocre/bad though. The rest he released that I haven't reviewed have actually been decent.
So the crazy carnival side of Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart made a baby and called it Man Man and they made it listen to the Fiery Furnaces alot. This four headed, eight armed and eight legged baby Man Man decided to record an album and called it Six Demon Bag with drunken and pissed lyrics, circus sounRAB and funny voices Six Demon Bag proved to be awesome, that is all I have to say. Favorite Song: Van Helsing Boorabox
Yeah, Porcupine Tree became more riff focused around the period of In Absentia / Deadwing, when Steven Wilson started to erabrace his metal influences (he mentions Opeth, Meshuggah, Morbid Angel in particular, during his interview on Futile). He actually has an incredibly eclectic range of influences... as shown here.
Yah, love 2005, Wind In The Wires, Digital Ash, Deadwing, Frances The Mute, Give Up and a ****load of other stuff I can't remeraber off the top of my head.
