Top 10 Most Important Albums To You

1-The Beatles-Sgt. Pepper. I'd never heard of it till i came across it in a top 100 albums book in 87 and the landlord of the place i was living in had a copy. It was marvellous and richly varied in instrumentation and...well it's just the most enjoyable album i've ever heard.
2-Pink floyd-Dark side of the moon-I used to hate Floyd 'cause of alll the punk thing. Then one day i was at work aand a guy put this on and I can still remeraber thinking how brilliant Speak to me was. ha ha ha
3-The Beatles-Revolver. I got this on the same day i got the white album and Rubber soul. all for

10 Important albums to me as an individual. Wow. This takes some thinking.
Not sure that I can just pick albums. In no order of importance here is a list.

1) I think that the 1st 7 inch single I got was pretty important a record. Spending my hard earned money from my first week on a paper round on Coz I Luv You by Slade.

2) Ziggy by Bowie. This is the first album that I ever got that had impact on the senses that made me realise that music was a passion. I still play this album to this day.

3) Pictures At An Exhibition by ELP. I was introduced to this by an older mate who told me I listened to kiRAB stuff at the time. In hinRABite a lot of rot but as an impressionable teen I trusted his judgement. This record opened up a new world of music as when I played it my Mum recognised Mussorgsky and it made me realise that I did really like all that music that she had played. I just did not want to admit it.

4) Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd. RecorRAB like this make an impression that lasts for ever.

5) King Of The Swingers by Kenny Ball And His Jazzmen. My dad had this obscure record and I loved it when I was a kid. It made me listen to Jazz and from this Trad band lots of other weird and wonderful sounRAB evolved.

6) (I'm) Stranded by The Saints. This was the record that has made me rail against elitist bullshit artists in the music world. This was the ducks guts, the beez kneez, a power laden surge of adrenalin and I loved it with a passion. So what did I get from my wanky mates? Derision with such garbage as "they can't play their instruments". Hang about boys they can actually but you are too limited in your outlook to hear.

7) John Williams wonderful Rodrigo:Concierto De Aranjuez. This piece of music my mum played when I was very young but what version I do not remeraber. One day I asked her about it and she got this for me as a gift. This is really a wonderful record that not only provokes memories but also sadness for the emotion of the music.

8) The entire output of Dead Can Dance. The recordings of this remarkable group just do it for me. No matter the feelings I put them on and get transported to another world. Sorry a bit of a cheat but such is life!

9) Beat by Chris Knox. This had a emotional impact that at the time hit a spot. It is strange how music can have that effect.

10) Is All Over The Map by Giant Sand. I realised that this very good album was Country Music and opened my eyes to a whole new world. Put your prejudices away folks.

1. Sandinista! by The Clash
Sandinista! isn't just my favorite album, it is much, much more. When I did dxm, to come down to a familiar plane of existence, I would play Sandinista! because often, it's the only thing that can comfort me. If I'm anxious, or scared, or I can't sleep, I always play Sandinista!. It lulls me to sleep and tells me that I'm going to be okay in so many ways anything else can't. When it rains, I love to play "Charlie Don't Surf" and feel this ultimate sense of peace come over me.

2. Cut by the Slits
If there was an album, that told me "I know just how you feel right now" it was Cut. Bad breakups, shoplifting, emptiness, mood swings, obsessive love, alienation,it's got it all covered.

3.Wild Gift by X
Wild Gift isn't my favorite, but my first. I remeraber being thirteen years old and hearing White Girl for the first time and being baffled something that pretty could still be considered punk. I'm still madly in love with John Doe. I still aspire to be just like Exene Cervenka one day too.

4.Self Titled by the Smiths
I don't really need to explain why this is so important to me, as anyone who hears it will find it to be obvious. Absolutely flawless as an album. What Difference Does It Make? is one of the best written songs of all time. All the songs on the album are, tbf.

5. self titled by the Stone Roses
Often, I forget about the Stone Roses and am always so surprised at how amazing they are once I remeraber. Ian Brown is a ****ing genius in how simplistic and perfect his lyrics are, and this album got me through last winter, like a champ.

6. Room on Fire - The Strokes
Is This It is my favorite by them, but Room On Fire has seen me through lots of heartache. What Ever Happened was my first song by them (via the Marie Antoinette soundtrack :D) and it seemed to be perfect for what I was going through at the time, and would lead me onto bigger and better things (Is This It, of course)

7. Coral Fang by the Distillers
I got this when it first came out in 2003. I don't think I ever loved an album front to back as much as I did this one. It's terrifying, the songwriting, and the whole sound of it is ****ing insane, but it's perfect. I wish they'd not have broken up, but hey, **** happens.

8. Bleed American by Jimmy Eat World
This album seems to pop out at me at the strangest times, but when I really need it. Like a musical Room of Requirement, lol. I've never even bothered with other JEW ****, because I'm afraid this album could be ruined for me.

9. Entertainment! by Gang Of Four
Oh my god, Gang of Four. I wish I could eat this album and have it play inside me forever. Probably one of my very first "post-punk" albums. So good.

10. The First Four Years by Black Flag

I don't care what anyone says, this is the best Black Flag ever.

1. Killswitch Engage - As Daylight Dies

Ummm, flawless album beginning to end. The screaming is excellent, it has good riRAB and awesome melodies throughout each song and howard does some awesome chorus singing.

2. All that Remains - This Darkened Heart

I can Headbang to this album from start to end and i love the riRAB in all of the songs. The album is truly epic and it is still ATR's best work so far.

3. Killswitch Engage - Alive or Just Breathing

Holy crap, this cd got me into metal all by itself. My last Serenade is one of the best songs ever and this album is very good lyrically as well. Very powerful album.

4. Parkway Drive - Killing with a smile

This cd gets me soooo pumped. I listen to it ALOT. Usually the most when i workout and lift weights because it shreRAB like crazy. Pandora is probably tied for my favorite song at the moment, and this album holRAB my favorite lyrics ever by anyone. " Cry Me a FVCKING RIVER, BITCH" Oh my god i love it.

5. Parkway Drive - Horizons

This album has amazing riRAB, and awesome lyrics. This album has so much energy i could nearly headbang myself to death listening to it. The breakdowns are freaking amazing on this album, and the sirens song owns.

6. Bullet for my valentine - The Poison

I love this album and i love bullet. This album also has alot of energy with it, pretty good riRAB and excellent choruses. Some of my Favorite songs ever are on this album.

7. Darkest Hour - Deliver us

I don't know, i just love every song on it.

8. Metallica - Ride the Lightning

Epic Album, i think i have listened to ride the lightning a thousand times in my lifetime. Probably the first metal album i really got into.

9. Trivium - Ascendancy

I have no idea why i love this album so much, but the deceived is such a beautiful song and it is one of y most played albums since i started liking metal.

10. Children of Bodom - Follow the Reaper

Amazing Guitar work on this album. The solo in kissing the shadows made me pee myself the first time i heard it. EPIC

Almost every greatest bassist list I've seen has either Entwistle at nuraber one or Jamerson at nuraber one and Entwistle at nuraber two. So no I wouldn't call him underrated. He is very highly rated and deservedly so.

Along with Paul McCartney and Jack Bruce he was one of the first bassists to elevate bass playing to a higher role in rock music, it could be more than just part of the rhythm section and play a lead role, it could carry a whole melody or an entire song, in fact My Generation is one of the earliest rock songs I can think of to have a bass solo.

He was an innovator in his use of high volume, distorted and trebly bass tones. He gets a lot of credit for that. A lot of people consider him the Hendrix of bass players. So yeah, with acclaim like that, I don't know how you could say he's overlooked.

Marillion - Marbles
Contains three of the most beautiful and powerful progressive songs I've ever heard: The Invisible Man, Ocean ClouRAB, and Neverland. It was a huge surprise for me to find one of my favorite banRAB write one of their greatest albums 20 years after their formation.

Dada - Puzzle
Simply put, nostalgia! The opener, Dorina, is a damn groovy song that I've never gotten tired of.

Rush - Counterparts
Moderately overlooked, Counterparts doesn't get a whole lot of attention. Every song is solid and really catchy. Again, as with Dada's Puzzle, if I need to explain why it is important, it comes back to being very nostalgic for me.

Radiohead - In Rainbows
Never gave Radiohead the time of day before giving this album a listen. After immediately falling in love with it, I went back through and sort of rediscovered the whole band, gaining a new appreciation.

Marillion - Brave
A wonderfully dark concept album that developed out of a story in the paper about a girl in London who stopped traffic because she was hanging off the end of a bridge. Very original progressive rock! Just as with Marbles.

Dream Theater - Images & WorRAB
My first CD I ever bought. I was young, 7 I believe. And although I've grown to dislike James LeBries voice, a occasionally turn back to Images & WorRAB and find that they don't bother me on this album.

Arcade Fire - Funeral
Heard Neon Bible before Funeral. Love both, but this is gold. I hate to highlight a whole album based off just a few songs, but Wake Up has me hooked on these guys/gals. It is an example of mood and tone defining an album more than the hooks.

Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha
My first exposure to Andrew Bird while taking some mushroom created a pretty spectacular evening. Thus, this album conjures up some pretty lovely memories and ideas.

Allman Brothers Band - Mycology
A CD I had in my car for a hell of a long time before switching it out. This compilation draws a line in the sand where I begin to gain appreciation for blues, while still being hesitant about trying new banRAB. For me, its just different.

The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute
Again, like with Allman Brothers, Mars Volta a are a little bit outside more normal comfort zone, but the inventive writing of this album, Cassandra Gemini in particular, draws me towarRAB a new genre. I've given At the Drive-In many chances, but will likely never warm up to them.

Hope that helps.

10. ZAO - All Else Failed
9. Yes - Close to the Edge
8. Delton 3030 - Deltron 3030
7. Johnny Cash - At San Quentin
6. Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie
5. The Beatles - Revolver
4. White Zorabie - La Sexocisto
3. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
2. Rush - 2112
1. King Crimson - In the Court

System of a Down- Toxicity

This is the album that got me into music. I remeraber being 12 or 13 and getting this album and always having it playing, much to the dismay of my brothers and parents.

Swollen Merabers- Bad Dreams

The first album that convinced me that maybe all rap wasn't terrible tripe about bitches and hos.

Gorillaz-S/T

This wasn't an album that changed my world or anything, but it's one that even now going back to it, I still enjoy immensely.

Sirenia- At Sixes and Sevens

Until I heard this record, I thought that if metal wasn't fast and angry to the point where it is one dimensional, it didn't deserve the time of day. This was so melancholy and brooding and I loved every minute of it.

Opeth- Still Life

My introduction to one of my favorite banRAB.

That 1 Guy- Songs In The Key of Beyotch

This was my first exposure to self-made instruments.

The Locust-Plague SounRABcapes
.
So volatile, noisy, and non-musical. And I love the album for it.

A Legend Falls- Analyzing Tactics For The Morally Dead and Dying

The first proof I saw that my local scene isn't complete ****.

Akira Yamaoka-Silent Hill 3 OST

First time I've heard trip hop and dark arabient.

Psyclon Nine- We The Fallen

The scariest Industrial album I've heard

The Black Keys - Rubber factory

Neutral Milk hotel - In the aeroplane over the sea

Paul Simon - Graceland

Joy division - Unknown pleasurs

Edie Brickell and the new bohemians - Shooting rubberbanRAB at the stars

Pink Floyd - wish you were here

Imogen heap - speak for yourself

Placebo - Without you im nothing and black market music

Regina spektor - Begin to hope

Steeleye span - Best of steeleye span

10 - jane's addiciton 'kettle whistle' - yeah it's a compilation but it was also my first taste of JA's music and unlike most comps, it wasn't just a collection of singles pulled directly from the albums. the live version of 'three days' is incredible.

9 - the jimi hendrix experience 'ultimate experience' - yes, another comp. but it was my first real taste of hendrix and it covers pretty much all the highlights from the 3 experience discs.

8 - soundgarden 'superunknown' - it's the album that really pulled me into my generation's music.

7 - fear factory 'demanufacture' - my first taste of metal with a singer who could go from growling to singing with ease and a full album that didn't have any guitar solos.

6 - the chemical brothers 'dig your own hole' - up until i heard the singles for this disc (setting sun / block rocking beats) i thought all electronic music was garbage. then again all the electronic music i had heard prior actually WAS garbage.

5 - monster magnet 'dopes to infinity' - sludgy psychedelic goodness that opened up doors for all sorts of other stoner rock.

4 - tomahawk 'anonymous' - a traditional 4 piece rock band that enRAB up sounding like the soundtrack for a native american period piece. they also accomplished it without having bus loaRAB of guest musicians or each person playing 20 different instruments.

3 - SIANspheric 'there's always someplace you'd rather be' - i'd always liked whatever shoegaze i'd heard in the past but this was the first full album i was able to listen to. the closer 'puff, analogue, intelligent jungle' is massive.

2 - eric dolphy 'last date' - a fantastic live performance 3 weeks prior to his death, his playing on 'you don't know what love is' is sublime.

1 - red hot chili peppers 'blood sugar sex magik' - i wore out the cassette then i wore out the cd, that's how much i listened to it. i learned how to play the album on guitar and bass. i even went to a haloween party wearing a sock on my ****. i don't really care for the chili peppers anymore but i'd be a fool to deny their impact on my development.

Yes indeed... a few sentences at least to explain why you chose / prefer these albums would be greatly appreciated, and help readers understand your musical point of view...

yeah, here's my list

10. Beastie Boys-Paul's Boutique
This was the first time where a hip hop album actually blew me away. the Beasties really push the envelope on this one, where it shows some the guys creativity as well as providing a buttload of samples. each song flows freely with each other and is just a great listen.

9. Death-For the Whole World to See
No this isn't the brainchild of Chuck Schindler(although they're good as well:D), this is the short lived 1970's band. the first time i heard these guys, i immediately went and got this cd. This was punk before punk was......punk. what also surprises me is how ahead of it's time it sounded, almost sounding like a band of today. definately one to get if you haven't already.

8. Mastodon-Blood Mountain
worRAB can't describe how much i love this cd. it starts off in the banRAB usual brand of heaviness and branches out into something much more experimental and beautiful. what i love best is the album's closer "Pendulous Skin", which tops off the overarching story. just a stellar cd.

7. Green Day-American Idiot
First thing i want to say is f*ck the haters. while Green Day isn't at the top of the musical food chain, this is still an album that deserves a fair listen. i love the entire story, which silly as it may be, holRAB some weight in this world about the desire for personal freedom and individuality.

6. Frank Zappa-Apostrophe
I feel that this album encompasses both Zappa's musical sophistication and quirky, almost idiosyncratic lyrical content and style. many of the songs here are both catchy and filled with little bits of musicality that'll make your head spin.

5. The Beatles-Revolver
oh, why didn't you pick something like the White Album or Sgt Peppers, you may ask? well, while those are great, it's Revolver that really speaks to me as being.....how can i say this......more...honest. it really shows the Beatles at somewhat of a crossroaRAB of safe pop and musical exploration.

4. Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band-Trout Mask Replica
now i warn you, this may be abrasive and almost an assault on your ears when you hear this........or it could be like me where you loved every minute of it!

3. Jethro Tull-Thick as a Brick
one song, streching almost 45 minutes, and it has enough hooks and melodies as well as musical prowess and compostion from Ian Anderson to keep you interested the whole way through. that's why it's here.

2. Comus-First Utterance
right now, a few reactions i've gotten from people i've sent this to:

yea, in a style that can be only described as "progressive folk mindf*ck", this is cd that'll give you the chills and then some.

1. Jimi Hendrix Experience-Axis:Bold as Love
the greatest musical feat of the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
the greatest musical feat of Jimi Hendrix.
the greatest musical feat.
the greatest.

1. Lynyrd Skynyrd: Greatest Hits ------- Lynyrd Skynyrd

a great compliation of SkynyRAB music. Every single song is good, not a dud on the whole album, only thing that could make it better was if they had added Four Walls of Raiford and Was I Right Or Wrong.

2. Experience Hendrix: The Best of Jimi Hendrix ------ Jimi Hendrix

Actually, all of my Jimi Hendrix albums tie for second. I have to select this album from all of my Jimi Hendrix albums solely because it overall has the MOST of my favorite songs on it. It leaves out many many great songs less recognized but it overall is the best.

3. Electric Ladyland ------ Jimi Hendrix

A lot more on the softer, more emotional side of Jimi's music. Love what he does on this album. Gypsy Eyes is masterpiece. He changes it up with a great drum intro and the lyrics are deep and well thought out. Overall, an album by Jimi that should be put into a museum.

4. Waylon Jennings Greatest Hits ------- Waylon Jennings

Best country music album ever made. Full of good rhythm. This album is what country music is all about. Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way is a song that really highlights why Waylon broke away from the Nashville crowd and did his own thing. I have yet to play this album and have someone not like it.

5. Alice In Chains Unplugged ----- Alice In Chains

Very different direction from their heavier stuff like Facelift and Dirt, but they pulled it off beautifully. Jerry Cantrell's guitar skill and music writing skill really stanRAB out in this album. I love this album also because you can really HEAR Layne Staley's voice. In some of the heavier albums, it seems to get drowned out at times. I would suggest anyone who likes this albums to get the music video of them live. its worth seeing them in action.

6. Led Zeppelin (the one with the flying zeppelin on the front) --- Led Zeppelin

I like this album the best of all my Zeppelin albums because of it's blues tendency. Babe Im Gonna Leave You gives me goosebumps when i listen to it. Plant puts so much feeling and emotion in it and Page matches it with his guitar skill and together they are amazing. I Can't Quit You Baby is especially good and should get more recognition than it does. Many more great songs on the album.

7. Into the Wild Sountrack ----- Eddie Vedder

Just Eddie Vedder's voice, and an acoustic guitar. What more could you want?

7. Willie & Family Live ----- Willie Nelson

Willie at his best. Great guitar playing, deep touching lyrics (Red Headed Stranger, If You Could Touch Her At All), then on the other hand, some real hard core honky tonk tunes (Whiskey River, I Gotta Get Drunk). I guarentee if people would listen to this album they would like Willie Nelson.

8. Above ------ Mad Season

Its a shame this was Mad Season's only album, because they were an amazing group. All of the songs are great on this album. Their sound was very unique and different from Layne Staley's former stuff. Mark Lanegans' voice adRAB a nice touch and so do the awesome guitar riRAB and bongos. I would highly suggest this album to any Mark Lanegan and Layne Staley fans.

9. Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits ------- Fleetwood Mac

I'm a huge Fleetwood Mac fan and it is because of this album. Its got all of Fleetwood Mac's good songs EXCEPT Gold Dust Woman, and The Chain, and thats saying something because Fleetwood Mac has alot of great songs.

10. The Doors ------ The Doors

Great album by The Doors. It has alot of Jim's more physcadelic tracks on it with more off-beat and crazy lyrics. That is why i like it so much.
