I wouldn't expect everyone to write this much but at least explain your reasons when replying to a list thread.

However, top 10 / bottom 5 is a bit long, perhaps people should post top 5, and optionally bottom 5.

What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

The Good (Not counting series I haven't finished yet):
1. Hellsing:
I don't normally go for the horror genre of anime but this one was just great. Lots of action, great characters, and music as well.

2. Cowboy Bebop:
Bounty hunters, sci-fi, comedy, drama this show has it all and then some. Very well done and entertaining.

3. Noir:
I really enjoyed this one it had me from the first episode with the great storyline and music.

4. Crest of the Stars/Banner of the Stars I and II:
Being a big sci-fi fan and enjoying stuff like Star Trek, Star Wars and B5, I found this series to be very good but not very well recieved by most anime fans. Great story and characters.

5. S-CRY-ed:
I began looking into this one after seeing a promo for it on one of my other DVD and it turned out to be a pretty darn good series, well worth the effort.

6. Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040:
The other BGC series are good as well but this one is the best in my opinion. Great storyline and interesting characters, with a hard rockin' techno soundtrack.

7. Vision of Escaflowne:
An interesting blend of the fantasy genre and mecha. Entertaining to the last, with more plot twists than you can shake a stick at.

8. Anything in the Gundam Universe(s):
...and there's plenty to choose from as well. For the most part all good stuff, the only one that I've seen and didn't like was SD Gundam. Great storylines, usually complicated characters, and giant robots destroying things is always good. 8-)

9. ROD OAV:
Fun and fresh this one surprised me. It didn't sound very entertaining but turned out to be a blast.

10. Excel Saga:
Has to be the funniest thing I have ever seen, very clever. Makes fun of just about everything including many different types of anime.

Honorable mentions go to Last Exile, and Infinite Ryvius, which were both excellent, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Gungrave, and ROD The TV. The last three I haven't finished watching yet but am liking a lot so far.

The Bad
1. X: The Movie
Has to be the worst I've seen. Sure the animation was nice but the characters were very shallow and the storyline rushed and unsatisfyiing.
Fuma really had no motivation for becomming a villain either and the end was rather anti-climactic.
I did like the series though.

2. Reign: The Conqueror:
The storyline wasn't all that entertaining and being a guy I just find the animation style...disturbing. All the men looking like women and wearing speedos, no thanks.

3. Canidate for Goddess (Pilot Canidate):
Just plain boring, I mean noting of any interest happened, the plot went nowhere, and I don't think the series was ever completed.

4. Ninja Resurrection:
Didn't like it at all, it just seemed a be a pointless gross-out fest that never got finished off. It may sound simmiliar and have a main character with the same name but it's in no way releated to Ninja Scroll which was actually good.

5. Soul Taker:
I absolutely hated the animation style of this series, it made my eyes ache watching it, literally. Watching an anime should never be a physical strain. I just hate it when I can't tell what's going on. The plot didn't grab me either. So for ugliness and boredom I never bothered to tune in after the second episode.
 
What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

Here are my Top 10 anime series:

1. Full Metal Panic - Excellent blend of comedy, action, romance, drama, and suspence. Kaname and Sosuke make an entertaining (albeit odd) couple.

2. The Big O - Superb animation, well-paced characters, intreging plot, awesome robot battles, and some of the best music I've heard in an anime series. The comparisons between Roger Smith and Bruce Wayne are legit, as this series does remind me of the recent Batman animated series, and Paradigm City is like an anime version of Gotham City.

3. Azumanga Daioh - Cute, likable characters, crisp animation, well-written stories, and some of the best VA in any anime series (most especially Kira Vincent-Davis as Osaka and Jessica Boone as Chiyo Mihama). The only thing that I don't like about Azumanga Daioh is the lame opening song. Also, Chiyo Mihama is the best mascot character in all of anime. Period.

4. R.O.D. OVA - Another well-animated and well-written anime. The OVA, despite being only 3 episodes long, crammed a lot of action and character developments, but in a way that was highly entertaining.

5. Neon Genesis Evangelion - See the first sentence for The Big O. The arguments between Shinji and Asuka are fun to watch. I'm more into the characters in Evangelion than all of the Judeo-Christian philosophies displayed in the series, but the religious philosophies does make this series enjoyable and interesting. I felt that this series was a little boring until Episode 8, when Asuka Soryu was introduced. Asuka's brash and tempermental attitude is an excellent companion to Shinji's whiny and wimpy disposition.

6. Chrono Crusade - It only been out for two months, but already I'm falling in love with this series. It's another typical Gonzo series - superb animation, great characters, dark and suspensful action, excellent writing, and an excellent dub cast anchored by the underrated Hilary Haag as Rosette. This series will get darker (and better) thoroughout its course. Like Evangelion, this series also uses Christian philosophies and displays them in an entertaining way. Rosette is sort of an anime version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (my all-time favorite TV show).

7. SaiKano - Another Gonzo title, this is by far the most depressing, emotional, and saddest anime series I've ever seen. It's also one of the best love stories that I've witness in any series. Shuji and Chise get my vote for best couple of 2004 because despite all of their tragic and difficult situations thrown at them, their undying love for each other proved to be their greatest strength.

8. Serial Experiments Lain - Perhaps the most intelligent anime ever created, but nothing Yoshi Abe does is anything short of spectacular. There's hardly any action in this series; it requires you to take a more cerebral approach to watching anime.

9. Kaleido Star - I think this is one of the most underrated titles in the anime market. Sora Nageino is a great role model for her determination to be the best, and she never backs down from a challenge. The animation is typical of all the Gonzo titles, but the bright colors and the circus background make it stand out from the others. I also love how Sora's relationship with Layla evolved over the course of the series, going from envy to acceptance.

10. Texhnolyze - Another creation by Yoshi Abe, this is another underrated anime series. There isn't much dialogue, but the masterful animation and suspenceful (albeit graphic) action speaks louder than words. This series shows why Yoshi Abe is considered one of anime's "geniuses".

Honorable mention (in alphabetical order): Gundam SEED, Kiddy Grade, Najica Blitz Tactics, Nurse Witch Komugi, Pretear, R.O.D - The TV, Sister Princess, Stellvia, Witch Hunter Robin, Wolf's Rain

Here are my 5 least favorite anime:

1. Reign the Conqueror - Two words: Peter Chung. :twisted:

2. The Animatrix - Mostly garbage. There were only 2 OVAs in this collection that I really enjoyed watching, but the rest looked like it was done with little or no effort.

3. Super Milk-Chan - Unwatchable and unenjoyable.

4. Miami Guns - Awful, even for a parody anime series. The presentation of this series was poorly executed, and I couldn't connect to the characters at all. To add to the misery, Yao is the most annoying character in anime. Period.

5. Mobile Suit Gundam F91 - Boring as sin. Pacing was rushed, characters were uninteresting, story was confusing and hard to pick up, and the ending was weak. However, there were some good fighting scenes with the Gundams, but that didn't occur until the tail end of the movie.

Top 10 Series(In No Particular Order):

Cowboy Bebop- No explaintion necessary

Trigun- Funny, Action-Packed, and Stylish

Full Metal Alchemist- It's easy to say this series is just getting better and better...

Naruto- It's just hooked me, I can't explain why, though.

Wolf's Rain- Amazing characters, music, and story

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex- Who thought mainstream anime could get your brain going this much?

Gungrave- The next Trigun, but with a more retro-mafia twist, highly recommended!

Hellsing- Alucard kicks @$$! Too Short, though, 'nuff said.

Outlaw Star- Great show about people trying to get by, but having rotten luck. Get by the introduction episodes(which I still loved) and it really takes off!

Rurouni Kenshin- Yes, the manga so far is better, but I'll wait till I've watched and read it all.

5 Least Favorite:

DragonBall Z- Naruto does drag, but not like this. Come on! Hit the guy while he's talking and end the fight already.... please?

Gundam Series- YAWN! G Gundam was pretty cool, but that's about it.

Yu-Gi-Oh- Is this even anime? I don't think so.

Pokemon- Once again, another reason not to watch Kids anime.

Mecha Anime- It all sux. Unless it doesn't involve Mecha as the main plot, lol.

Honorable mentions: Samurai Champloo, Berserk, .hack//sign, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Inuyasha, Saiyuki(yeah, I know, leave me alone on this one), Get Backers, Paranoia Agent, Peacemaker, and Witch Hunter Robin.

What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

I don't know if I could neccisarily put them in order but here are my ten favorites.

Sailor Moon: It's the anime that started me out and I've always been something of a shoujo fan being as I'm kinda of a girly girl at tiems.

Kare Kano: It's a soap opera for people who hate soaps. Unlike soaps this is at least funny at times and just as addictive. The characters are very well based and interesting as well as realistic. I love anime that can delve into who people really are.

Azumanga: I love crazy anime and cute anime this just happens to be both. Azumanga feels fresh and different. It's a school girl shoujo anime without being to cutsy and annoying to guys. The characters are wacky and at times make you want to just hug them. I especially like Sakaki cause she never gives up no matter how many times she gets bit in the hand.

Cowboy Bebop: Gritty realism in space and the best OST I've heard in a very long time. Of course if you know anything about Yoko Kanno you know well enough that everything she's ever written is great. That's all I have to say about that.

Gravitation: Shounenai rocks!

Trigun: If anything could pull off wacky and serious it's this and it's done very well. Gun fights are awsome and Vash is oblivious what a great main character.

Digi Charat: If you don't pay attention the only thing you'll be able to utter is what the hell?! Paying attention some times makes you say that to. Overall zany things happen that don't make any sense and it's great.

Princess Tutu: I havn't actually watched it but it looks so adorable and I love ballet I think I'll have to love it no matter what.

Excel Saga: I have this strange fascination with any show containing a character that I'm compared to by my friends. Seeing as her sieyuu is also Mitsuishi Kotono I think that's all I need to say.

Witch Hunter Robin: I love dark anime and this one is with getting to caught up in angst. Don't get me wrong a little angst is good to but not all the time then it just gets depressing. Magic is always a cool way to bring up to anime fun and this one is choc full of it but in a more realistic way and that's admirable.

now for the anime that I truly despise.

1. Dragon Ball Z: Yes to some of you this will seem lkike blasphemy but I don't care. It's repetitive and the only thing that every seems to happen is that the bad guys are different. The Goku becomes more powerful and he beats him until another one shows up. All of this takes fifty episodes to get no ware. Mostly people yell at eachother or sound constipated and yes I have seen to Japanese version so you cannot accuse me of Dub biasing.

2. The Big O: that's actually an anime. I never would have guessed. It's big fighting robots but the animation style looks like a batman beyond rip off and besides that the plot is basic and doesn't even merit bothering with.

3. Fushigi Yuugi: You know it's bad when you can't make it through one episode before simply wanting to kill yourself and that isn't because it's bad it's because that's just how damn depressing the plot gets. I stopped watching this before I could get to the end of it simply because I could no longer stand to watch any of the episodes. Fushigi Yuugi is a strange love affair that you at first enjoy then begin to loath as soon as you realize what you've to yourself and your mind.

4. Weiss Kruz: No don't get me wrong I love Shounen ai but this one just doesn't seem to make up it's mind either way. The plot is boring and repetitive and the characters aren't altogether that believable either.

5.Pokemon: Surprisingly I don't actually hate the anime itself. I despise what it stands for. It stands for all the children who seem to have dragged their conservative worry wort over zealous parents into it. True before pokemon alot of other anime would not have become as main stream. Wasn't that part of the beauty of it though. Loving something that only a few could truly be knowledgable about. Of course you can still do that today you simply have to work a lot harder. However Pokemon lead the way for the crusading parents to storm in and start trying to ruin our fun with the other anime. At least now you can find more of it it's just on late at night.

My top 9 are (let's just ignore Akira, Metropolis, and all Miyazaki films, cause they would take up all 10 slots):

Now and Then, Here and There Along with Trigun, this one attempted to change the way I felt about certain things that had been ingrained in me. Unlike Trigun, this one succeeded.

Naruto It started out feeling a bit uninspired, but it has shaped up to be a fine anime with plenty of drama and amazing animation. I can see why people would be offended by it, but really I think it is a bit arrogant to ignore the entire show for a few mistakes.

Read or Die OVA Wonderful music and action scenes. Excellent writing.
*You didn't just mess with her book, did you? -- time to watch out* :)

Silent Mobius This is a great series with excellent music. (For me, music is what makes 40-60% of anime).

Cat Soup Though it is only like 30 minutes long, it ranks up there with most of the top anime movies I've seen.

Noir
Another a beautiful series with excellent music. Not going to spoil it like people did for me, so I won't say another word.

Crest of the Stars I absolutely loved this series. I have yet to watch Banner of the Stars I and II, but I will get around to them sometime. It's the ultimate sci-fi series.

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence I never cared for Ghost in the Shell too much. Felt like a rehashed Blade Runner and uninspired. The music was great. However, GitS2 blew me away. Absolutely gorgeous scenery, music, and direction while mulling over interesting ideas, all set in the future with cyborgs... Perfect.

Cowboy Bebop For me this was the anime that finally pushed me over the edge from "secret admirer" to "fan". I'd always loved Akira and Princess Mononoke, and what I'd seen of Macross Saga, but I just didn't know where to start. Then Cartoon Network got Cowboy Bebop exposed me to what I *knew* existed, but just had no other way of finding it. Best anime series ever created.

Blue Seed is an honorable mention. Nice combination of humor and action, and good character interactions.

That would explain it.
It is probably the only "bad" anime I've seen.
While good most of the way, they totally, utterly lost it in the last couple episodes. Disgusting.

Candidate for Goddess was technically never completed since it didn't follow the manga the whole way. I can't stand animes based off mangas that don't go through all of it. Berserk is a perfect example along with Flame of Recca.

Anyway, the majority of the anime I love is Gundam, but I'll put one Gundam series on this list.

1. Mobile Suit Z Gundam
-Two reasons, I am a hardcore mech fan, and I am a hardcore Gundam fan and this is just one of the best Gundam series' I have ever seen along with one of the best animes. I thought it had a good story, a great equally spotlighted cast of characters, great action, great mechs, just great everything and is a must see anime and a must see Gundam series. It pretty much surpasses it's prequel, the original Gundam series in every aspect.

2. Hajime no Ippo
-Though (counting the ova and tv special) the anime goes up to only volume 33 of the manga (out of 71 volumes as of right now), it does a good job of putting the manga into movement and to "life". It is a great coming of age story about a bullied boy who discovers his true abilities, learns how to make friends (whether it would be his gym mates, his former tormentors, or even his opponents), and discovers how to live life. Unlike Ashita no Joe or the Rocky movies (Rocky's 10x title defense in the beginning of 3), it does not montage through his fights. Every fight is built up for Ippo (and in some cases for Kimura and Aoki). Plus, Takamura despite how much of an invincible force he is to the public, he shows he is subject to weakness and to fatal flaws and to pain. It's probably a realistic version of what could go on in the world of boxing at times. And to add in the fact that it has spinned off into the best boxing game ever.

3. Macross (Both Series and Do You Remember Love)
-Just a really awesome series. I really love the Valkyrie planes and how they just transform. I think it covers romance, comedy, action, and drama equally well. Though it is a little cheesy, I still think it brings out emotions and tries to teach about prejudice and misunderstandings between people and "cultures" very well. I thought it gave introductions to typical bad ass characters like Roy Fokker.

4. Dragon Ball Z
-As much as a lot of people here would see me hate to say this, but it is an undeniable fact that DBZ is a huge fraction of the reason why anime is becoming more widespread world wide despite how long it had to take to get to America. I'll admit that right now that I wouldn't have found my identity as an anime fan if it weren't for Dragon Ball Z. I put this on my list not just because I find it to be a great anime, but it has done a lot for the anime community. As for the dragged out fights and pointless fillers, that's what the manga is for. You can pretty much finish the fights like 10-15 pages rather than in episodes. I pretty much like the manga a lot more because of those reasons but it pretty much set the standard of anime in the mid-1990s. As much as I am not out of touch with this one, I still hold it in a place within my heart.

5. Aura Battler Dunbine
-A very underrated anime outside of Japan. I had to go to the Philippines to get an import DVD boxset of this. I keep hearing it's licenced but I can never find it. Anyway, buying this anime on my trip over there was worth it. Without this anime, there would never have been Escaflowne. This anime was made by Tomino Yoshiyuki of Gundam in between the first Gundam, and Zeta. It pretty much started the whole idea of people being trapped in another world that seems ancient (like Fushigi Yuugi, Magic Knight Rayaerth, Inuyasha, and Escaflowne) and developing certain powers. I just wish more people knew about this and talked about it more.

6. Initial D
-I just love cars and I just love Eurobeat. Because of anime, animation shows it is full of imagination, not just slap stick comedy like you see in most American cartoons like Tom and Jerry. Sure the designs are not the best and the whole idea of racing may not appeal to some people but I just like the originality behind it. Using real cars (and somewhat real physics) in an anime and in some ways, accuratley demonstrating some of their actual abilities and limits. Plus, I think it has very interesting (and cool) characters like Ryousuke and Bunta. And adding into the fact that it has spinned off into the best arcade racer ever.

7. Ashita no Joe
-I've only seen the movies, very little of the anime, and have read a certain portion of the manga. It's very old school and is pretty much Hajime no Ippo's prodecessor. It also has an interesting cast of characters. Hajime no Ippo tends to be more about the boxing and the boxers, while Ashita no Joe is more about the life of Joe from cleaning up his act to becoming a world champion contender. The fights are not as exciting or mind blowing as Hajime no Ippo's, but the results and the build up is what gets to you sometimes.

8. Sailor Moon
-Well, I also pretty much watched this one a year before it came to America and one of my first animes to watch as a fan of anime. Plus the fact that I am a huge sentai fan so this stuff was pretty unique to me. I like it because whether you love it or hate it, it's going to be an all time world wide classic in the world of anime.

9. Marmalade Boy
-Pretty much one of the first romance based/shoujo animes I ever got into. Though the story may seem weird to some people, I never grew up with my parents divorced nor do I have step-siblings so it was pretty much easier for me to get into and enjoy. It's pretty much one huge ass drama, but it is very unpredictable and has a very relaxing soundtrack.

10. GTO
-Just pretty much a hilarious anime.

-Bad dubbing, stupid (and pointless) name changes, they screw up Ryousuke's character and personality, lame garage band music, and the "trick outs" in the races look like an end of they year 3rd rate high school video.

3. Dragon Ball GT
-Other than marketing reasons to help keep the Dragon Ball franchise "alive," it really served no purpose. Toriyama-sensei originally intended to end it with Freeza (I HATE the Frieza spelling), the fans pretty much kept the series alive, while this time it was the staff. It pretty much contradicted certain story elements and it just pretty much became pointless. The only good thing about this series is it's soundtrack.

4. Final Fantasy Legend of the Crystals
-Just plain sucks

5. Onegai Twins
-Just shows that some anime can't rely on pointless fan service forever

01. Record Lodoss War
This D&Desque show is beginning to show it's age, but to me it fits into the fantasy/epic sword and sorcery show I've ever seen in anime. Sure Parn comes across as an incompitant warrior, but the closest part is watching him mature into a stronger warrior. Really enjoyed the music in this one also.

02. Slayers
One of the most fun shows I could possibly show to anyone of all ages that would get into the characters and simply kick back and enjoy the lightness of this show. I found myself laughing out loud frequently alone to this show because of the quirky nature of it's characters.

03. Robotech/Macross
I watched the 3rd season of Robotech(Mospeada) a few times before I decided I wanted to collect more anime and especially anything Macross related. I liked how this show blended so many genres together perfectly for me: comedy, romance, sci-fi, and mech. Highly recommended for anyone wanted to watch a classic sci-fi anime over a long haul. I've still have yet to finish Macross 7 arg..

04. Nadia
Before there was Evangelion, Gainax showed off it's excellent story telling skills in Nadia: Secret of the Blue Water. At first I didn't think I'd enjoy this show because of the older character designs, but once I got locked into the story I didn't mind and I enjoyed all the great moments Nadia and Sean had in building their relationship over the period of the series. Weird, but the Neo-Atlanteans reminded me a lot of Giant Robo's Big Fire character designs. Keene(sp?) was a cute pet lion to watch also in the show.

05. Excel Saga
Take a break from the anime norm and watch a show that has absolutely nothing to prove other than it's insane wackiness that often tests the sanity of the show. I really enjoyed the dub of this show, only disapointment would be that Jessica Calvello didn't stick around for the second half of this show as the Excel lead. If you seen quite a library of anime than you'll pick up the paradies caught in this movie. Kinda like watching shrek in a way, but this anime mind you.

06. Berserk
I didn't think there was a fantasy anime out there that could top Record of Lodoss War for me, but Berserk is quite the contendor. It's a serious anime for adults that enjoy fast story pacing and character development and don't want any of the light wacky nature a young show has like said Slayers. Gutts is kinda like the anime incarnation of Conan the Barbarian. Just watch how he swings and trains with his sword..

07. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Quite arguably the best anime to watch on Halloween night. It has some of the best animation i've seen rendered to date. Character designs are pretty amazing, this is a must see for people who haven't had the chance to catch it. Without spoiling anything I'd say watch it! Only flaw it had for me is that the movie was too short and probably should have been maid into a short OVA series.

08. Moble Suit Gundam (original series)
If you can get past that this show was aired in Japan in 1979 and simply enjoy the story pacing of this show than you're well on your way to becoming a true Gundam fan. This show serves as a great intro into the world of Gundam, especially the UC shows. Explaining the backdrop between ZEON and the Federation. The fights are really epic and climatic in space.

09. Saber Marionette J
At first glance one would have suspect this is a show about battling androids. It turns out the show turns itself into a drama/romance between the lead male and three marionettes. I liked watching the marionettes become more human over the course of the series. Highly recommended.

10. Neo Tokyo
Truly an amazing anime feat for the legendary makers of anime Masao Mruyama (Tokyo Godfathers), Rintaro(Metropolis), Yoshiyaki Kawajiri(Ninja Scroll), and Katsuhiro Otomo(Akira). This short anime is split up into three movements Labrinth, The Running Man, and Construction Cancellation Order. The shocking part is realizing these guys made these anime shorts almost 20 years ago is quite a surprise.

The not-so-great-least-5-favorites

01. Neo Ranga
At first glance this anime looked promising a mysterious unravelling plot three girls who can control a giant foreign robot not welcomed into Tokyo. The immaturity of this show ultimately turned me off and I unfortunately collected the whole box. This is one of ADV's lesser successful shows.

02. Devil Lady
Probably, going to surprise people but this show was too dark and creepy for me. I've never had nightmares from watching anime, but I got a few of them watching this show. I like everyone of Go Nagai's shows, but this one disturbed me a little too much.

03. Zaion
Yet another crisply nice crafted GONZO show, so everything should be perfect right? Well I thought the flawed story pacing ruined the short anime experience for me.

04. Yukikaze
"For fans of Macross Plus" is what I was told. It certainly looked great animation wise, but the story was too underdeveloped for me and its quickly before the story can get anywhere.

05. Landlock
Of all the great Manga Ent. releases, Landlock holds a place at the bottom. Poor character development and crummy animation ruined the experience for me in this one.
 
What are your 10 favorite and 5 least favorite anime?

Im fairly new to Anime. Just started watching in the past year or two. Being rather older than your average anime fan,I am 33, I tend to like the more adult oriented shows.

1) Cowboy Bebop. I "cut my teeth" on this one. I was up late and flip the TV to Adult Swim and saw it on. I really couldn't figure out who was who and what the heck they were doing. I watch a few more episodes and realized each episode is a story unto itself. I really like the detail in the animation and the more mature characters and storys,(except for Ed). Recently bought the Perfect Collection and have watched it twice. Very cool show.

2) FLCL. Also watched this on Adult Swim. First thought "what the holy hell is going on in this show?" Most bizzare animation I had ever seen. hmmm very intriguing. Bought it and sat down and watched it all the way thourgh. Three times! I get more out of it with each viewing.

3)Ninja Scroll. Just recently bought this after it was recommended by a co-worker. I really like the characters here. The bad guys were very different and had very unique abilities. The coolest being the guy that hides in the shadows. Very mature, adult anime. Liked it.

4) Vampire Hunter D. Both movies on one DVD. The first really shows its age compared with todays anime but I thought it pretty interesting. I found myself wanting to know a lot more of the the back story of D and the thing on his hand. Was kinda disappointed that I didn't learn more. Seems to be the "norm" in many anime, they just jump right into the story with little to not background. The second move looked much better visually. All-around good purchase.

5) Ghost in the Shell. Had to watch it twice to understand it. Like it but wanted more out of it.

WORSE:
Since I am fairly new to anime most of what I see is on TV.

1) Super Milk Chan. Is this even considered anime or is it in its own class of Japanese Animstion? Anyways I hate it. I hate the animation. Looks like a cheaply made Saturday morning cartoon. And I won't even pretend like I understand it at all. Supposedly parodying Japanese stuff. I don't live there so I don't get it.

2)The Dragonball series. What is this? How long can it possibly take to tell a story? Ugh. My head hurts just thinking about this awful show. Even my 8 year old nephew hates it. 'Nuff Said.

3)Hellsing. I have mixed feelings about this show. The first couple episodes were very very good. The characters introduced were interesting to say the least. The story was setting me up for some good action in a mature fashion. About midway through the series everything goes down hill fast. I felt like I was being physically pushed to the end because the creators were tired of the story and wanted to rush to wrap it up. Even the animation seems less cared for at the end, not so much detail. So based on how I felt at the beginning of the show it would have made my top list. But after the dismal ending its going here.

So thats my list so far. I've watch some more anime than I have listed here. I will continue my search for the more adult series and movies. I here good things about Berserk...may have to buy it..

What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

Hmmm...my top favorite. anime...this isn't in any particular order...

1. Pretear--A lot of people can look at this show and go...ok, another Sailor Moon, but Pretear is sooo much more than some ridiculously mushy love story, like Sailor Moon. The show has drama, romance, comedy, and great fight scenes. Plus...Sasame and Hayate are 2 of my top bishies.

2. Chobits--This show is hilarious! I loved it from the first time I started watching it. But although I mainly love it for the humor, I also love the characters, especially Chii...she's so cute!

3. Inuyasha--Although this show is a bit longer than it needs to be, I love it for the blend of genres. It has action, but doesn't overdo it, like DBZ. It also has fantasy (one of my favorite genres) and romance, but isn't mushy. So this is a nice, well-balanced anime. Plus, this show actually has a decent bad-guy, u know, one who actually has a brain and is actually a genuwine bad guy.

4. Rurouni Kenshin--I'm ashamed that Cartoon Network cut up this show soooo badly. I'm a big fan of samurai, so obviously Kenshin is my fave character. Soujiro's cool too. Anyway, the action scenes are great, and the Kyoto arc was excellent. Plus, the love sub-plots are great too.

5. Cowboy Bebop--Well, since this is obviously a well-loved anime, I'm not even going to waste my time explaining why I like it. Two words--action and music

6. Wolf's Rain--Well, if you like Cowboy Bebop, I think you should check out this one as well. The storyline's a bit confusing, but it's enough to keep you on your toes without completely throwing you off.

7. FLCL--This show completely threw me off. When I first cut it on, I was like "WTF?" But that's what I love about it, because, I'll continue to watch it as long as the plot can keep throwing me off...I'll have to watch it until I fully understand it.

8. Fushigi Yuugi--This is a great fantasy story. It involves love, friendship, and THE BEST LOOKING GUYS ANIME HAS TO OFFER (so what...I'm shallow).

9. .Hack//Sign--Another anime that completely threw me. Not much action, mainly plot development. But, the music is wonderful. See-Saw is a great group and the music that they made for the show is perfect.

10. Trigun--A great blend of humor and action. And I really love Vash and Knives, although Wolfwood was by far my favorite character.

Other faves--Sorcerous Stabber Orphen, Angelic Layer, Full Metal Alchemist, Ranma 1/2, Yuyu Hakusho, Blue Seed, Fruits Basket, and Gundams Wing and Seed.

Here is another one.

Kite - maybe considered as an adult anime. An anime consists of both actions of explicit sex and violence. However, in comparison, the strong point of this anime is the action of violence not sex. To an adult, the depiction of rape and the explicit sex in this movie are nothing special - what else can you expect. On the contrary, the actions of violence in this movie would simply stun you.

There is nothing special about the story in this anime. It is a simple story about two teen assasins - the girl is Sawa and the boy is Oburi. According to the director, the name 'Kite' of this movie is a metaphor - the freedom and the actions of someone are being controlled and constrained. You can fly but under how I tell you to fly.

To me, no other Hollywood action movies (Die Hard, The Matrix, Natural born killers or Kill Bill etc.) have the same magnitude of intensity. Although this anime has been compared with the French movie Nikita, in comparison, the actions in Nikita are quite mild.

Anyway, under North American standard, this movie is rated X - in other words, if you are under 18....sorry.

If people have problem with Janet Jackson in the SuperBowl, the gun fight scene in The Martix, or playing video game Grand Theft Auto, this anime should be banned and burnt in hell.

Be warned, don't try this movie at home if you are still getting money from your parents.

#10 - Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

Beyond the obviously gorgeous visuals and superb presentation, VHD:Bloodlust is a startlingly good love story thats at both times gripping, uplifting, and sorrowing. I've always enjoyed it and still get a little misty whenever I see
the starship lifting off at the very end of the film

#9 - Tenchi Muyo in Love 2 (aka Tenchi Forever)

Being the only Masaki Kajishima written story of the three released really changes the dynamic of this phenomeonal piece. What's more, the striking, realistic character designs (honestly, it looks like Kajishima replaced himself with Abe or Kawajiri for this one) and dramatic storyline bring the Tenchi canon into a wholly different place and yet good direction, writing, and animation make it seem like it should've been there all along.

More over, this was the first movie that honestly made me cry.

#8 - Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem

While I'm a huge fan of all of Matsumoto's work (I even like Harlock Saga and Maetel Legend, folks), it's Interstella 5555 that really fancies my tickle. It's incredibly good and has a wonderful free-spirit to it that makes it enjoyable for anyone, anime fan or not. By relying only on music and image, I do believe Matsumoto achieved an ideal of a pure anime opera.

Plus it's one of the few works I've seen Zac actually rave about.

#7 - Bubblegum Crisis

This is 2032, folks. The original and one of the most fun romps through a cyberpunk landscape you'll ever encounter. It launched the careers of many anime greats (including esteemed character designer Kenichi Sonoda and Tenchi OAV director Hiroki Hayashi) and featured a great mix of character examination and witty comedy, poking fun at Sci-fi action anime's idiosyncracies. Its a grand OAV and a good example of how music should be woven into the fabric of anime.

#6 - Ah! My Goddess OAV's

Bell and K1, they're one of the longest running couples in anime and deservedly so. These 1992 OAV's brought goddess Belldandy and all-around good guy Keiichi Morisato to life with lovely animation and superb acting. Even if a little "abridged" and not 100% accurate to the manga, the OAV's brought a depth of love to the screen that's rarely (if ever) matched in anime. Couple that to one of the absolute finest dubs ever produced in America, and you have an anime immortal.

#5 - Gundam

Though I'm partial to Wing and love the OAV Mobile Suit Gundam side stories. Gundam is anime's Trek. You embrace it as a canon, enjoy it as a series, or revile it as a whole, but you know it no matter how you go.

#4 - Initial D

Being a car guy, I was naturally drawn to this series because it has cars in it. However, the draw of the racing (even though it is some good stuff and the direction is phenomeonal) would be short lived if not for the truly remarkable character interaction.

There's a depth here that really shows an understanding of life. Initial D goes beyond sports or shonen anime to become slice of life, portraying its characters as real people with real lives. Racing is a sidebar to these characters, a way of linking them together and giving them a common goal, but its not the end all of their existence.

Unlike the angsty and heavy handed shoujo writers or the high-handed artsy directors (Anno and His & Her Circumstances, I'm looking right at you) humble Shuichi Shigeno writes young men as they really are, faults, ambitions, hopes, loves, sorrows, and all.

#3 - Tenchi Muyo GXP

This one, honestly, caught me off guard. It's genuinely funny, but genuinely sweet. The new characters are welcome additions to the Tenchi canon, and direction from good ol' Nabeshin himself gave this series an incredible amount of laughes. GXP not only lives down the spinoff stigmata, but is a wonderful example of how a good funny anime can be.

#2 - Project A-ko

I owe my anime fandom to this movie. Hysterical to no end, beautifully animated, and completely timeless, it's impossible not to get a good laugh and a pleased smile out of a viewing of this anime staple. Excel Saga may have launched parody in anime to new heights, but Project A-ko put parody alongside absurdity and a well and truly funny story to make comic gold.

And Craeyst Raygal's #1 anime is...

...and if you've been on these boards long enough, you should see this coming...

...the Tenchi Muyo OAV's

I have never enjoyed an anime as much as I've enjoyed the Tenchi OAV's, and quite possibly I never will. They have such a good combination of fun, adventure, love, and comedy that they're fresh to me every time I view them.

Which, at current last tally, is well over 200 times total.

There's an inexplainable vitality to the series, a quality that doesn't diminsh with age, increased viewings, or even "superior" new creations. The beauty of the character designs, the honest balance of the story, and the sprawling expanse of the universe let the mind play in Kajishima's fantasy world of space faring pirates and magic wielding goddesses. Masaki Kajishima didn't go about making some grand artistic statement or enter into some wild philosophical debate when he made Tenchi Muyo. He didn't need to. Instead, he told us a story about some fun, lovable, and wonderfully human (no matter what planet they're from) characters and about how they care for one another.

Anno can have his desperately bleak outlook. Kon his dark psychoanalysis. When all is said and done, I infinitely prefer Masaki Kajishima showing us that no matter who we are, where we're from, and how we ended up here, if we value life - our life and the life of others - we're family.

1)Great Teacher Onizuka
This anime is the best comedy I've ever seen. You could only wish we had teachers like Onizuka.

2)Haibane Renmei
This one goes deep. Real emotional parts. I'm lost for words on how to describe it. It was just great.

3)Princess Mononoke
All I can say is Hayao Miyazaki is awesome.

4)Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi
This one picks up on nonsense comedy where FLCL left off, and with a better story line. I bought the whole series after seeing the first episode.

5)Neon Genesis Evangelion
I loved Gainax after seeing this. The animation was great, and the story line was deep and meaningful. I could go on and on talking about it, but I don't want to put spoilers.

My bottom 5 (best to worst)

It was just a waste of time. Slow plot, no comedy, and a weak plot explanation.

4)The 8th MS Team OAV and Movie
The final episode to this series had no point at all!(the episode not released in the US) The movie was entirely boring because it was comprised of cuts directly from the series.

3)Fist of the North Star Movie
I expected better from this movie. The animation was poor and the fight scenes with Kenshiro were one sided. (you see him blow up one guy, you know he'll blow up the rest)

2)Angel Sanctuary
Incest is disgusting so the story was bad.

1)Akira
I find this to be the worst anime I've seen. The story line was very weak. Start flames now, I know a lot of people liked this one.

Is it okay to make this thread THE ONLY most / least favorite anime thread? I'm tired to see favorite threads popping up every other day and end up becoming list threads.

What are your 10 favorite and 5 least favorite anime?

I haven't seen many anime but I'll see what I can come up with. ^_^
Favorite:
1. Witch Hunter Robin- It's dark, dramatic, and different. I love the characters and how the storyline uses things from real life.
2. FLCL- It's really funny, so funny that you don't really have to understand it at first to be entertained. Just watch and laugh...learn later. :D
3. Cowboy Bebop- Action, comedy, drama, romance...what else do you need? I love Spike, Faye, and Ed...Spike and Faye make a pretty good comedic team...Ed does just fine alone. :lol:
4. Trigun- Action and comedy...a lot of both. Vash cracks me up...I could stand to watch it a few more times...^_^
5. Inuyasha- The last anime I could think of...it used to be my favorite until Witch Hunter Robin replaced it...funny, a lot of romance, tons of action...pretty good.

Least Favorite:
1. Big O- Don't understand it...can't get into it long enough to try to...
2. Case Closed- Too long...I didn't watch a lot of it but it seemed like all it would be was case after case after case after...ah, you get it...^_^
3. DBZ- Repetitive...all of those episodes kill me...
