Led Zeppelin is awful. And Britney Spears will stand the test of time, I'll put money on that. Doesn't make her a musical genius, just popular with little kiRAB, just like Zeppelin was in the 70s.

That list is good. I'd take out Bob Dylan and put Metallica there. I'd put G'n'R at nuraber 10. I would bump Jimi up alittle higher possibly nuraber 3 becuase he did influence alot of music from banRAB such as the Beatles and likely Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin is the all time greatest rock band. Nuraber 9? Pink Floyd. Can't forget Floyd ( Best selling album of all time ) Shows you how many stonners are out there.

good list frances.. agree with you on the rating reasoning mostly, its kinda silly to say "BEST of all time", because music is so diverse. if you took the #1 artist at their style of music (still debatable), you would still have like 100+ artist. and how do you compare apples and oranges?

1. Led Zeppelin
2. The Beatles
3. The Rolling Stones
4. The Who
5. Jimi Hendrix
6. Bob Dylan
7. Eric Clapton
8. Elvis Pressley

These are my eight locks; Any thoughts on them and 2 more that are must haves?

seriously.... johnny cash deserves to be in a top ten before elvis does.

elvis was a man britany spears of an earlier age. quite unimpressive really :(

I disagree. ;)

Though I'd rate Ziggy over every Zep album except II. I still prefer the Zep overall.

I generally prefer Glam Rock era Bowie over Eno era Bowie, I never really got the fuss over Low.

... i dont know how much influence jimi hendrix had on the beatles. i mean his first album dropped in 1967... and the beatles broke up in 1970. they by that time were developed musicians who were doing the influencing on others. besides that, i just dont see how jimis psychedelic blues rock influenced any of the beatles music. not to say they didnt appreciate his music.

floyd doesnt have the best selling album of all time either, the eagles do (worldwide i believe michael jackson does with "thriller"). they really are more of a psychedelic band anyhow; bob marley, bob dylan, and the beatles were more avid promoters of marijuana.

edit - ps led zeppelin = always overatted

Well ok mabey you're right about the Beatles. They did go to see him play and were fans like everyone else. But ok, the Beatles are the Beatles. John Lennon is my favorite lyricist/songwriter. (btw)

Led Zeppelin I don't think is overatted. Look at the band. Awsome guitarist ( Arguable one of the best ever ) Awsome Drummer. Awsome basist. So so singer but he fits with the band. When I listened to them for the first time when I was like 12, I automaticly liked every song off of Led Zeppelin II. I haven't found an album where I liked every song like that ever. (with exception to Nirvana's Nevermind) I know it's a personal opinion and all, and I've kind of O.D.ed on Zeppelin, but they have to be the best rock band of all time. Super group.

Love, love me do.
You know I love you,
I'll always be true,
So please, love me do.
Whoa, love me do.

Love, love me do.
You know I love you,
I'll always be true,
So please, love me do.
Whoa, love me do.

Someone to love,
Somebody new.
Someone to love,
Someone like you.

Love, love me do.
You know I love you,
I'll always be true,
So please, love me do.
Whoa, love me do.

Love, love me do.
You know I love you,
I'll always be true,
So please, love me do.
Whoa, love me do.
Yeah, love me do.
Whoa, oh, love me do.

F*ck lyrics.

I wouldn't say the guitar playing on The Song Remains The Same, Dazed and Confused or Stairway To Heaven are even remotely typical of the blues genre. They were pretty damn innovative for their time.

Zeps influence and especially Jimmy Pages is far from superficial, Johnny Ramone even admitted to ripping off his upstroke/downstroke technique from Communication Breakdown, and EVH cited Heartbreaker as the inspiration for his hammer on/pull off heavy style of playing.

You better not be a punk/emo fan.

Different things stand out to different people.

Surely it can't be because some people actually like Led Zeppelin, surely.

If you don't like them, no one else can, this means that everyone who says they like them are lying to themselves.

Brilliant.

Yeah, from your elitist frienRAB who think because they don't like Led Zeppelin it means they have no talent.

"Oh wow, I don't like Led Zeppelin, I'm such a revolutionary that I'm gonna start an account just so I can rant about them and see much sh*t I can start."

Kate Bush seems to be criminally overlooked. However An ultimate top ten will never be agreed on by everyone, because music appeals on so many levels, and one person may not understand anothers fascination of a band. I have never understood the fascination with Led Zeppelin, but they are immensely popular and are highly regarded in critics circles. Who's right? No one!

Led Zeppelins IV was voted the best British Rock album of all time by Total Rock in 2005. The list was compiled by critics AND respected musicians. I still don't agree one iota, and that's what music is about.

I think that you're delirious if you don't believe that Britney Spears will stand the test of time.
No one ever said she was good, but Zep isn't any good either. They've stood the test of time.

They did write their own music.

Most of what they stole was just lyrics (not their claim to fame), and pretty much all of it was just from their first two albums, after III they were doing more original compositions.

They did a few uncredited covers (Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused) which was wrong, but their versions are greatly different from the originals anyway, they made them their own.

There are only two songs from them musically that I would say are direct ripoRAB, Black Mountain Side (originally by Bert Jansch) and Hats Off To Roy Harper, the later of which they credited as a traditional piece from the start so who cares?

Besides, both of those tracks are good competitors with Hot Dog for the title of most insignificant song in Led Zeppelins entire catelog.

Its amazing, the desperate measures you guys take to discredit a band you hate. Absolutely pathetic.
