Toonzone's Top 50 Animated Show Countdown!

Nope, I just posted 5 that one time to get down to the Top 20. And now I'm doing 3 today and 3 tomorrow to get down to the Top 10. And from there I will count down one by one.

I didn't understand how it made it so high until a couple weeks ago. I couldn't fall asleep so I turned on the TV. I remembered Spideyfan and Mr. Wednesday tell me that I'ld like it so I decided to watch it. It was great, just my kind of humor. Now I really want to see it from the beginning so I can completely tell what's going on.

#15 Scooby Doo, Where Are You?

This is my favorite cartoon ever and I believe it is ranked way too low right now. For a while it was ranked first, but it unfortunately ended up falling all the way to 14th. It created an entire genre of mystery solving all on it's own and is one of the biggest lasting franchises in the history of television. A new series is coming out soon because everyone still loves Scooby and they always will. He's one of the most popular characters ever and for good reason. One thing that sticks out to me is that almost all of the villains in the entire franchise are so original. A lot of them are just chilling, it's great. So yeah, I would have had it in the Top 5 for sure.

#14 King of the Hill

Meh, I was never a fan of this one at all. The humor wasn't my style and I didn't like the characters. Not much to say about it, I guess I can understand why so many people like it though.

This list is a downer to me. A lot of these shows are way too high IMO (Like Scooby Doo, yeah it might have been good as a kid, but seriously it's way too high for me.) But that's just my opinion.
 
Yeah, King of the Hill and Scooby Doo are a bit lower than I think they should be... too bad :(

Top 13 now? Looking like you guys may be right about W.I.T.C.H.... I never imagined it'd miss out on the list entirely but unless it's ranked really high up, that might actually be its fate. What a shame.
 
Kay, thanks for clearing that up. Anyway onto the choices:

I really do think that Tom and Jerry should have been higher up too. They were just plain awesome.

Ditto with Spiderman.

The other two I'm fine with.
 
Lists like these are popularity contests, not a critique of quality or anything. W.I.T.C.H. was not popular.. it pretty much bombed in America (both show and comic) It's popular everywhere but here, to be specific. Not sure why you were expecting to see it on a popularity list.
 
Tom and Jerry shouldn't be allowed on the list because I recall you specifying no theatrical shorts. Otherwise Looney Tunes/Merry Melodies would have made my list.
 
It's plenty popular, I know a ton of people who were fans of it and I even see it mentioned a lot here. There's no reason to believe a board of serious animation fans wouldn't be into a great cartoon like W.I.T.C.H., this board is not typical of the general population.
 
*sigh* Looney Tunes didn't get higher because of the confusion over whether it counted or not.

And usually milked series are worse. The last three you mentioned definitely beat Scooby, especially Avatar, (which deserves to be high on this list)
 
I suppose the nature of this list makes it unavoidable that people will disagree with it. For my personal disagreements, I would have Transformers, Superman, Justice League Unlimited, Scooby-Doo, and Animaniacs in the top 10.

There's probably 15 shows on the list I wouldn't have placed in the top 50, based purely on the subjective 'I don't/didn't like them'.
 
I feel pretty certain that The Powerpuff Girls is going to show up on the list, but i am eagerly awaiting to see whether or not it will make it to the top 10 (which i believe it deserves).
 
Good that you're gonna start following FMA. Just be warned: you will laugh, but also expect to cry. A lot.

Scooby Doo's too high up if you ask me. Just what is so great about a show that has a laugh track but isn't funny and claims to be a mystery but every episode is the exact same thing?
 
I like South Park and The Simpsons better than Family Guy. Family Guy was pretty good durings its first run but ever since it got revived, it hasn't been as good. It's been more retarded and random than funny.

South Park does the best parodies, imo.
 
I have to agree (although Simpsons trumps South Park IMO). I don't usually like crude humor, but South Park just pulls it off so well! The best and most obvious example is the naggers joke. I won't repeat the joke, but I'm sure the fans will know what I'm talking about....
I've honestly only seen a few episodes of the show, but I definitely have to see more considering the fact that it was on my list despite me having seen only a few episodes.


How is Family Guy better than South Park? Family Guy is crude humor with no point. South Park is crude humor with politics!

But I accept your challenge.

Being classic does not by default make a cartoon superior to a modern. It is frequently true, as most modern cartoons (e.g. Family Guy) are absolutely horrible in every sense of the term, but there are good modern cartoons, and, believe it or not, a classic can be bad.
You're arguing that Scooby-Doo is better it is generally considered better. And to be honest, that's simply not true - as this list demonstrates, Futurama is vastly more popular than Scooby even amongst geeks. Now that's saying something!
And yes, Scooby-Doo is still getting new cartoons even 40 years after its debut, but that does not by default make it better than modern cartoons. If a cartoon stands the test of time, that may just mean it can appeal to multiple generations, or even just that it is easy to readapt. Futurama, on the other hand, was canceled for reasons beyond comprehension - in fact, I've heard that the guy who canceled the show was fired because. And now it's coming back.

There are more things to consider than simply how iconic a show is when determining it's greatness. For example, the quality of the show itself. Try using that for your next example.

That said, I love Scooby-Doo, ranking somewhere around 10th on my list(can't decide between Scooby, Rugrats, and Hey Arnold!), and actually think it gets quite a lot of respect on this site.


What are you talking about? The reasons there are so many post-2000s shows on the list is because that's what's on now, that's what's on people's minds, and that's what more of us have seen. There are actually very few people who have even seen many pre-'90s shows, so you can't expect as many to make it on the list because you can't vote for something you've never seen!
Are there people who irrationally hate old shows? Yes. But I don't think there are many on this site. Just at look how high Scooby went! And Looney Tunes made the Top Ten even when people didn't think they could vote for it! These aren't the kind of people who despise anything old for no good reason - many of them love everything old for no good reason!

You're right, I suppose I wasn't clear enough. Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry are fair game because both air in half hour to hour segments. I meant no broad categories like "All Mickey Mouse Shorts," or "All Daffy Duck Shorts."
 
This is already reminding me that I need to watch more cartoons.

I don't mind TMNT being in the #50 spot, even though I dislike it - I'm willing to admit that it's good at what it does. I don't know about TDI being in #47, though - even though I actually do like that one, I think there are a lot of better shows that could take it's place. Same deal with Phineas & Ferb.

Man, I should have sent in my list. I meant too, but I kept forgetting about it until the countdown was already on!:crying:

(Cartoon, actually, isn't the average Looney Tune just 7 minutes long?)

I agree, the list is a downer but not because of the blasphemous statement you just made, but because shows like Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones, and Yogi Bear were ranked too low, and shows like Spidey, King Of The Hill, Beast Wars, and The Venture Bros were ranked too high. Other shows like Ed, Edd, and Eddy, Phineas & Herb, Penguins, Hey Arnold, American Dad, Kim Possible, and TDI shouldn't have been ranked at all. And I could go on and on about the toons that deserve to make it but likely won't.

If Family Guy or Futurama wins this countdown, this list is throwaway IMO. I don't dislike either show, but neither of them is even close to being the best cartoon of all time IMO. And Spongebob and Avatar being in the Top 10 is also a joke (provided that they make it there, I suspect that Spongebob will unfortunately).
