1 - One Piece - The first real anime I got into and its constant writing along with fantastic music, acting and general funness make it an all around great package
2 - Ouran High School Host Club - A show that while short, was incredibility entertaining. Easily the best shojo i've ever seen.
3 - Yu Yu Hakusho - The best shonen show ever because unlike a good majority, it actually enRAB on a small episode nuraber.
4 - Kinnikuman - Its inspired many (Wrestlers and mangakas alike) while never getting the respect it deserves!
5 - Detective Conan
6 - Gurren Lagann
7 - Full Metal Alchemist
8 - Gintama
9 - BECK
10 - Excel Saga

The rest I just throughly enjoy. Honourable mentions would be Death Note, Baccano, Trigun Dragon Ball and Lupin the Thrid. I would mention Cowboy Bebop but... i'm sure it will score high regardless XD

Thanks.
That's right, I'm not talking about DBZ.

While I personally don't like that show, I don't mind seeing it on the list.
But there's an even worse one.
This other one that is... ugh.

Doesn't matter. It won't make it.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

1. Clannad After Story
2. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
3. One Piece
4. Kanon
5. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
6. Azumanga Daioh
7. Air
8. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
9. Ouran High School Host Club
10. ef - a tale of memories

...Actually, I'm not entirely sure about #9 and #10... They were mostly picked because they were the best I could think of at the moment.

...Anyway, reasons:

1. In a nutshell, this series essentially managed to be the best (for me) at just about everything it did. I couldn't find a single character I didn't like, the music was beautiful, the animation was fantastic and the story got me all teary-eyed a lot more often than what should be allowed for a 24-episode series. The end of the 18th episode is probably the single most heartwarming scene I've ever seen in any anime ever.

2. ...Ok, so this series is far from perfect. Many characters are underdeveloped, the plot is kinda ridicculous, and it does tend to blatantly sacrifice common sense for the sake of looking cool. On the other hand, it just works. The characters that DO get developed are actually pretty compelling, the action-scenes are pretty much the coolest I've ever seen, and both the animation and music is totally awesome.

3. One Piece is basically the only series of this length I've seen that has actually managed to maintain its quality, with no signs of jumping the shark. The plot seems to have been planned out to the last detail, the fights are really fun and creative, the characters are likable, with the obvious exception of people like Spandam or the Celestial Dragons, whom we are obviously supposed to hate. Also, it's got a lot of really, really emotional scenes. I mean, really, just TRY to watch any of the characters' backstories without crying. So yeah, this series has a little bit of everything, and the fact that it's managed to stay good for so long pretty much guaranteed it a place on the list.

4. This show is similar to Clannad in a lot of ways. The characters, music, animation and overall storytelling all seem to be "predecessors" to Clannad in a way. While I do think Clannad is a little better (obviously), I still have to give Kanon credit for being really consistently good. Unlike Clannad, where I can easily say that some arcs were rather lame, and it's only nuraber one because the others were so utterly perfect, this one manages to have all of its arcs be equally emotional and compelling, and I can't really point out one specific part of the series I like better than the rest.

...To be honest, I can't really think of any explainations for the rest of the list.

Well, here's my list

1. One Piece
2. Yu Yu Hakusho
3. Pokemon
4. Gurren Lagann
5. Fist of the North Star
6. Kinnikuman
7. Death Note
8. Full Metal Alchemist
9. Berserk
10. Dragon Ball

My explanations and possibly some edits to my list are to come later in the day.

Since anime movies seem to be topic of debate here, I'll ignore them for now.

1. Armored Trooper Votoms
2. Twelve Kingdoms
3. Neon Genesis Evangelion
4. Galaxy Express 999 (TV)
5. Giant Robo
6. Princess Tutu
7. Ghost in the Shell SAC
8. Sailor Moon
9. Irresponsible Captain Tylor
10. GTO

1.Gintama

As much as I like other series. Gintama has to be hanRAB down one of the best well rounded series ever. The balance of comedy, action,, and drama is just amazing. When you're watching it it, you'll probably lose count of how many times you'll laugh, scream at your screen in excitement, or shed a tear. The characters are great, each with their own depth, which makes interactions enjoyable and interesting. The music always blenRAB well with the different situations. Fight/actions scenes are done well never dragging out. Comedy might be hit or missed with references, but the rest is just pure gold. The emotional scenes can be real tearjerkers when seeing what happens to certain characters. I really don't think there are any other series in my opinion can come close to what Gintama pulls off.

P.S. I really see it as a very underrated in the anime community.

Let's see... this is gonna be a toughie.

1) Cowboy Bebop ~ Because, honestly... it is that good. Flawless. Even its worst episodes are an absolute joy to watch. It's animation could be a show in and of itself, the plot could be a novel beyond compare, the music would be a fantastic album... seeing all of these things corabine makes Bebop not only a fantastic series, but, in a sense, the epitome of human artistic achievement, corabining the three "arts" - aesthetic, literary, and musical. Along with Fantasia and other such things, I mean... but I rarable...
2) Grave of the Fireflies ~ Because not all art has to be beautiful. I think Ebert called it the "most profoundly human animated film" or something like that... and I wouldn't dispute him. I mean, this movie gets PAINFUL to watch, but you can't turn away.
3) Porco Rosso ~ I watch this movie and a profound sense of calmness comes over me. Miyazaki is a genius, and Porco Rosse feels like "his" movie.
4) Yu Yu Hakusho ~ I'm not sure if I would put it up this high if we hadn't been talking about it so much, honestly... but it IS one of the best shows ever, so, plop, nuraber four. I cried at the end. That's good enough for me.
5) My Neigrabroador Totoro ~ Totoro, Totoro... perhaps the best children's movie of all time. It talks to children on their level, and speaks to everyone, I think. Miyazaki has a gift, and Totoro is the easiest way to spot that gift. It's just a magical, MAGICAL movie.
6) One Piece ~ This baby's nearing 500 episodes and has not only remained consistantly entertaining for a decade but has IMPROVED. And it was fantastic from the start! Points for that.
7) The Big O ~ Batman with a giant robot. East meets West in the most spectcular way possible. Perhaps, the greatest Christmas special of all time. As far as I'm concerned, it's THE giant robot anime.
8) Paranoia Agent ~ Weird show. Well, that's an understatement, but, it gets the ball rolling. I mean... it's a morality tale, kinda. I'm not really sure. But it makes you very... uneasy. You're not sure what to feel. It keeps you on edge, not because it's SCARY, but because it's both real and unreal. Y'know?
9) Castle in the Sky: Laputa ~ A personal favorite... there is a romanticism that's hard to pinpoint in Laputa. It's nothing special, really - the plot isn't too different, the characters aren't too interesting, and the whole thing is so linear next to the rest of Miyazaki's stable. But I love it all the same.
10) Fullmetal Alchemist ~ A shonen that really breaks its mold. Lovable characters, fun story, and some real depth and drama to it. It shows off all the strengths of its genre - the humor, the characters, the action - and goes off the charts with all of them.

Honorable Mention) Rurouni Kenshin ~ As much as I adore it, Kenshin just doesn't hold up. Greatest manga? Definitely. But as far as anime goes... there's far better choies.

Im not going to include anything that's manga based... just because those would be my entire list and because there would be far too many that i love to choose from.

1) Cowboy Bebop
2) FLCL
3) Gundam Wing
2) Gadguard
4) Gungrave
5) Legend Of Galactic Heroes
6) Armored Trooper Votoms
7) Now and Then, Here and There
8) Texhnolyze
9) G Gundam
10) Medabots

Wow, not including anything manga based made me really have to think hard about the last one, i ran out of anime that i really liked and remerabered well.

Let's start...

1. Yuusha-Oh GaoGaiGar
2. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (Choosing between these two is like choosing between my kiRAB. I have to give GGG the slight edge simply it's the reason I fell in love with super robots all over)
3. One Piece. Any show that actually IMPROVES over 200+ episodes has to be considered a classic.
4. Hajime no Ippo. Because it's the only show on this list that literally changed my life. If I had never seen Ippo, I would probably be a fat shut in instead of well...an amateur (and hopefully in the next few years professional) mixed martial artist.
5. Afro Samurai. For being the complete opposite of shows that seemed to dominate the lanRABcape.
6. Giant Robo. Being that epic is hard, yet it succeeded flawlessly.
7. Re: Cutie Honey. For taking a genre I have at times utterly despised and creating something this awesome.
8. Fist of the North Star. Manliness to the nth power.
9. Cowboy Bebop. Stereotypical answer? Sure. But it deserves it.
10. FLCL. Another stereotypical, but deserving show.

My list only goes up to 7 because I've seen very few anime.
1. One Piece, Same reasons as in the Top 50 cartoons thread
2. Yu Yu Hakusho, Just an amazing fighting anime and one of the few with no filler arcs!
3. Sgt.Frog, Same reasons as in the Top 50 cartoons thread
4. Dragonball, The original is very funny and mixes its comedy perfectly with action
5. Bobobo, Same as SGT. Frog
6. Case Closed, Same reasons as in the Top 50 cartoons thread
7. Slayers

Selected discussions of picks from my previous post:

Berserk
It's me. 'nuff said.

Genshiken
Seriously, SERIOUSLY underloved little gem. With no reservations, the best slice-of-life show I've ever seen, in any medium, from any country.

Princess Mononoke
I hope the Miyazaki vote doesn't get too split, but to be honest, much as I love some of his other work, this is the only one that would crack the top 10. The multifaceted way he treats nature in this film, as something at once alien and threatening, yet unique and worthy of preservation in its own right and not only by virtue of its usefulness to humans, is amazing.

Akira
It still doesn't really make any damn sense, but it doesn't matter. The definitive vehicle for youthful alienation and body horror.

Dragonball Z
Warts and all, this is still the greatest shonen action series of all time. With the release of the Dragon Box and the ability of North American fans to finally see it as it was meant to be seen, it's perhaps more relevant than ever.

Honorable mentions go to One Piece and Gantz, which missed the top ten only because I enjoy them both far more in manga form than animated.

Hm.. what would I pick... hm... It's a hard decision.

1. Cowboy Bebop
2. The Vision of Escaflowne
3. Gundam (as a whole)
4. Ouran High School Host Club
5. Azumanga Daioh
6. Excel Saga
7. The Big O
8. Cardcaptor Sakura
9. Slayers
10. Record of Lodoss War

Honourable mentions: Argentosoma, Full Metal Panic!, Fullmetal Alchemist, One Piece, Genshiken, Trigun.

Hopefully more details will come soon.

Wow, I should suggest stuff more often. I'm always posting my everchanging (with some exceptions) top 10 list around, so it's nice to have it finally mean something. It's especially fitting to start today, since the "top 5 anime on American TV" blog went up today.

1. Cowboy Bebop
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion
3. Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal
4. FLCL
5. Samurai Champloo
6. Gurren Lagann
7. Ghost In The Shell/Stand Alone Complex (if that's not allowed, I guess I'll go with SAC)
8. Fullmetal Alchemist
9. Death Note
10. Beck

I know nothing else counts, but I can't help but post my honorable mentions, since it was so hard to not include them. Looking at my list, the obvious question is "where are the stand-alone movies?" Well, I really don't think I can count them as equals to series or even OVAs. I would have mixed it up, but not only do I prefer series (usually 26 episodes) and OVAs, as they allow me to get to know the characters and be a part of their world, but there is no way I could leave any of the above out of my list. So, without further ado, here are my top movies:

HONORABLE MENTIONS (movies):
11. Porco Rosso
12. Millennium Actress
13. Akira
14. Everything else by Hayao Miyazaki
15. Everything else by Satoshi Kon

That's the other reason movies don't work in this list for me; everything is by Hayao Miyazaki and Satoshi Kon, except for Akira. The only series I really regret not fitting on that list is Code Geass, but it has enough flaws that I'm content with that.

As for my actual choices, I hope in the last two years, I've explained that... (if there's one that surprises you, feel free to ask)

I'm glad to see all the Escaflowne, One Piece and GaoGaiGar love (even though GGG wasn't on my list)

You know what.....I'm going to make a thread about GGG. I've been here for over a year now, it's about time we had a discussion on it.

1. One Piece
2. Tenga Toppen Gurren Lagann
3. Cowboy Bebop
4. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
5. Samurai Champloo
6. Dragonball Z
7. FLCL
8. Black Lagoon
9. Baccano
10. Yakitate Japan

1. Dragon Ball - I'm giving it an edge over it's successor series as it has more things I like, namely more humor and having a more martial arts movie feel to it. It's just more fun.
2. Dragon Ball Z - Of coarse Z is still pretty awesome. While it does tend to drag on it has some of the best fights in anime history. Definitely a worthy "sequel".
3. One Piece - Quite possibly the best anime still airing today, it has everything awesome: pirates, guns, sworRAB, fighting, cyborgs, undead skeletons, you name it.
4. Fist of the North Star - The most badass anime ever, this one has a lot of cool fights and exploding heaRAB to satisfy one's bloodlust.
5. Hellsing Ultimate - Hellsing is also one of my favorite manga, and was I disappointed when I saw the TV adaption. The ova makes up for it though by retaining everything that made the comic great, the blending of action and comedy all in one.
6. Kinnikuman - Out of all the anime that hasn't come to America, I'm hoping this gets a dub someday. Sure we got it's toyline in the 80's and it's sequel series earlier this decade, but it's disappointing that this hilarious action series is left in the dust.
7. Lupin III (second series) - Another influential series, Lupin was an inspiration for many characters, like Spike Spiegal from Cowboy Bebop. The show it's self it hilariously fun and a thrill ride.
8. Cowboy Bebop - Right, so a bit of a typical choice, but what can I say? It's a great show that has everything to make even a person who doesn't care about anime interested.
9. Big O - One of the most underrated series of all time, Big O has some really deep plots and great concepts. But then what do you expect from people who worked on Batman The Animated Series?
10. Yu Yu Hakusho - Yu Yu is a bit overrated in my eyes, but that doesn't mean it's not a great fighting show. It has that odd feel that reminRAB me of River City Ransom blended with Japanese mythology that I think is a blast to watch.

1. FLCL
2. Samurai 7
3. Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars
4. Slayers/Next/Try
5. Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo
6. School Rurable
7. s-CRY-ed
8. Black Cat
9. Pokemon
10. Astro Boy (80's verison)

1. Code Geass (both seasons)
2. Elfen Lied
3. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
4. Death Note
5. Ouran Highschool Host Club
6. Lucky Star
7. InuYasha
8. Fullmetal Alchemist
9. Sailor Moon
10. Kanon

Well, this is roughly my top ten, but something tells me some people won't like mine, but whatever, it's a bit different:

1. Dragonball Z - Oh come on, it's not hard to say I loved this show when I was younger, it was the truly definition of an anime series, and as somebody who isn't that interested in much mainstream anime now, maybe it's because DBZ just can't be topped.

2. Pokemon - The original series will always be awesome, the current epiaosdes are also okay, but I realize the first series is better, and of course, it got me in the games.

3. Kanon - Heartwarming, a bit sad, and even a little humor. Anime are kinda shy of that, maybe because they might never beat the way Kanon's did all three. It's really well-made, it's not too sad, or too dark, it's just what a drama should be, just right.

4. Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo - This is one of those series where your mind will just have to accept how nonsentical the humor is in this show. Too bad it had to end prematurely, but watching all of the episodes might never get old.

5. Kanamemo - This could be a controversial choice, I know, since it came out this year, but this anime is really that funny! Is there any other comedy anime that has really great dioalogue, and even a muscial episode to boot? Well, look no further.

6. When They Cry - If it's on a seperate series, then it's second season, Kai. A lot of people like the first season just for the blood and gore, which kinda made the first season itself kinda of an uncomfortable experience for me. However, when Kai was released, there was more plot and it got fun understanding the mysteries surrounding the town, although fans were disappointed in season 2, I mostly liked it for that season. Season 1 was okay, but seeing characters killed really made me that uncomfortable.

7. Pani Poni Dash - Another comedy, of course, but it technically has two kinRAB of humor; it's zaniness, and the multiple shout outs to cultureal references such as movies, tv shows, and other anime. And, of these anime of my list, I also vote this one for best animation, because of how colorful it is.

8. Lucky Star - Sorta similar to PPD, except it pretty much explores more, and is more on the "development" side, with the characters, and it did have some annoyances, but they were mostly passable as I enjoyed how cultural Japan is because of this show.

9. Death Note - As soon as I heard the concept, I immediately wasnted to watch this because of how awesome it sounded, and while usually I don't like darker series, this worked simply because it's meant to and that it was really entertaining.

10. K-On - Another controversial one (just like Kanamemo, it was released this year), and while BECK was okay, I think K-On was the more suitable show. Think of this show being similar to Josie and the Pussycats or Jem, except Japan made it, and I pretty much knew this was gonna be a hit as soon as I saw the promos, and I was right, and I enjoyed it.

Honorable mentions:

Azumanga Daioh - I know, I can't believe I didn't put this show in the top 10, but comparing this to other sllice-of-life shows shows that back then, this was popular, but of course, other better concepts of slice-of-life shows showed up, but I'll always know Azumanga as the "first" slice-of-life show, the only problem is that it sorta surpassed it's prime, but it's still enjoyable anyways.

Gurren Lagann - I wish I could've seen all the episodes, but think about it; I only saw about 8 episode of this show and it's at least on the honorable mention? That's still pretty good, and at least I was able to understand what was going on, so I wasn't too lost. Basically, if you see any episode of this show, you'll basically understand it in a heartbeat.

Bleach - Kind of a guilty pleasure, kind of a personal favourite of mine, it's action feels DBZ-ish, except with weapons, but if it wasn't for it's MMCD (Massive Multiple Character Dissorder), it would've been a little more enjoyble, because remerabering characters names is prtty hard.

Hidamari Sketch - This has very interesting pacing, as you need to watch both seasons carefully to fully understand, but if you're not a fan of that, then no problem, like Gurren Lagann, you'll understand this series pretty fast, although there is oneepisode in season 2 that involves as a "prequel" to one episode in season one, but it's not too important.

Koihime Musou - As a follower of the Romance Of The Three Kingdoms novel, I knew I was gonna like this (I was already a fan of the Dynasty Warriors games), and it turns out I was right, even if it is a little gimmicky, the series worked out for the best.
