ToonZone's Top 25 anime mecha nominations

I finally got it. I was trying to decide between anime OP's or voice actors but then I thought "What's something that's just as recognized as anime characters....something cool...something big....something that there's plenty for people to vote from....Ooh I know!" and thus we have this.

As usual, the rules are the same. List your favorite ten robots. #1 will get 10 points, #2 will get 9, so on and so forth. The list rule is as usual suspended and explanations are welcome so vote away.

Various forms of a mecha will count as separate mecha (ex: Liger Zero/Jager/Schnieder/Panzer are four separate votes) but to save time if possible try to stick with the base/well-known forms. Alternate forms can be picked

However, something that had a different name in localization (aka God Gundam/Burning Gundam) will obviously count as the same vote

If you want you can put the show the mecha belongs to next to it

Without further ado

10. Gravion
9. God Gundam (G Gundam)
8. Murasame Liger (ZoiRAB Genesis)
7. Gaiking (Gaiking: Legend of Daiku Maryu)
6. Nirvash Type-ZERO spec2 (Eureka Seven)
5. Nu Gundam (MSG: Char's Counterattack) (I love funnels. They're so cool)
4. 00-Raiser (Gundam 00)
3. Dann of Thursday (GunXSword)
2. Genesic GaoGaiGar (GGG: FINAL)
1. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan (What can I say. It is my favorite)

(If no one likes this idea it can be locked)

Honorable mention goes to Mazinger-Z. I haven't seen it yet but I'll give it it's props

I'll give it a shot....
10. Mazinger Z (Mazinger Z)
9. Genesic GaoGaiGar (GaoGaiGar Final)
8. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan (Gurren Lagaan)
7. Tallgeese (Gundam Wing)
6. Devil Gundam (G Gundam)
5. Big O (Big O)
4. Freedom Gundam (Gundam Seed
3. Gundam 00-Raiser (Gundam 00)
2. Victory 2 Gundam (Victory Gundam)
1. Wing Gundam Zero (Gundam Wing)

Worry not, when I conquer reality I shall have Tomino create a far more satisfying version of ZZ in which Judau is actually a pretty good pilot.

And Haman's performance isn't so craptastic.

Wasn't the final battle of ZZ more of double KO with Gundam ZZ and the Qubeley taking each other out at the same time? Also I found ZZ to a far better show than Zeta ever was.

Uh, no. That's way off. Doube ZZ and Quebly just sort of stop fighting, discuss some stuff, then Haman suicides just...because. Like "Byez, gonna crash into an asteroid cause you have a bigger newtype penis" or something.

And you enjoy Moon Moon people?

No No No, I mean BEFORE that. Ask for Haman killing herself wasn't it because A. Her Forces have been destroyed by civil war and B. Judau made her lose the will to live.

10. GM (8th MS Team): Probably one of the few grunt suits that look stylish, the GM has a ultitarian look that dispenses with the ugly organic forms or uneccessary elements hat make most mecha look guady.

9. Gundam Dynames (Gundam 00): It looks utilitarian, and the idea of a super sniping mecha is just plain awesome. I mean, how many mechs does one see that can shoot something in Low Earth Orbit?

8. Scherazade (Escaflowne): AKA Allen's guymelef. I'm choose this more or less because it looks graceful as a knight's armor, but looks like a killing machine. There's also the appeal of magipunk mechs.

7. Tallgesse (Gundam W): With a Greek war helmet and white armor, the Tallgesse is just impressive. It wasn't something driviative like most Mech designs: It was tall, big, and looked nasty all while looking great. And probably one of the few non-Gundam

6. Gundam Deathsythe: A Gundam based off the Grim Reaper, with a beam scythe, and stealth capabilities? Whats not to like?

5. Heavyarms Gundam: Peace through superior firepower. Heavyarms is armed to the teeth with missles, multiple machine guns, a Beam Gatling Cannon, and a Swiss Army Knife to boot. Heavyarms is a literally one mech army.

4. Big O (Big O): Art Deco Design and Gaint Robot Asthetics, Big O looks just as sharp as its pilot. Big O's arsenal is just plain neat: from gaint hooks and chains to lasers. But what Makes Big O really statisfying is that it wins by smacking its opponets with it's two awesome fists.

3. RahXephon (RahXephon): A beauty, the Rahxephon is jsut a thing of beauty to behold. It's armored plates, its winged head, and stylish armor, it just looks great.

2. Veritechs (Robotech/Macross): A furtistic F-14 Tomcat with fusion eginees and the ability to transform into a mech, and another form that's a fighter with legs. Armed with a gattling vcannon firing transuranic slugs, it is a thing of deadly beauty.

1. Titan Mk. 1 (CNC: Tiberian Sun): GDI's main battle mecha, first appearing in TS, and latter-

wait..wait...wrong medium.

1. Mad Cat (Battletech): The Iconic Clan mech-

Shoot! Sorry about that. Alright, this will be my real #1!

THE REAL #1. Gundam Wing Zero: Sure the first gundam was simple, but effective. But Gundam Wing Zero was the perfect baleance of artistry and battlefield mecha. It felt like a warmachine, while retaining the grace and form of a work of art.

I'll agree that parts and attacks of the RahXephon look cool but it's face kinda scares the hell out of me. Especially when it starts yelling.

It's a good show though!

I'm going purely by looks on this one. Here are my 'Top 10 Coolest Looking Mecha'-

10 Nirvash typeZERO spec 2 - Eureka 7
It's like a Gundam and an Eva had a bastard child that ended up killing both parents in an emo rage.

09 TIE - RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis" - Gundam 0083/GN-005 Gundam Virtue - 00 Gundam
A lot of mecha fans like BIG suits, and I couldn't decide between these two. While the Virtue was cooler, it didn't end up doing anything at all. The Physalis wasn't quite as cool, but it flexed its muscle.

08 Venus A - Mazinkaizer
I just think this one looks great.

07 ZGMF-X666S Legend Gundam - Gundam SEED Destiny
I thought the weakest part of SEED and Destiny were the suits (not counting the awesome Astrays), but this one stood head and shoulders above the rest. The Providence Gundam had a lot of potential, and the Legend was able to improve that design.

06 Godannar - Godannar
I'm a sucker for suits with sharp angles that look vaguely humanoid (see:Eva).

05 AMX-004 Qubeley - Z Gundam
Haman Karn's suit had a threatening "poisonous moth" kind of menace to it. The color scheme goes perfectly with the suit type also.

04 XXXG-01SR2 Gundam Sandrock Kai - Gundam Wing Endless Waltz
Sandrock over Wing Zero and Deathscythe Hell any day of the week. Shotels for melee weapons? Ingenious. Heavyarms would have been awesome too if it were more bulky, like the Physalis.

03 MS-09R Rick Dom - Mobile Suit Gundam
In Mobile Suit Gundam, it's arguable that Zeon had the cooler looking suits. The Zaku IIs may have been the most iconic, but the Rick Doms were the coolest.

02 Eva 03 - Neon Genesis Evangelion
A lot of people liked the iconic 01. Still, others preferred the red scheme of the 02 or the blue "one eyed" 00 prototype. I'd take the more animal-like 03 over all of those.

01 Macross - Super Dimension Fortress Macross
The first time I saw it in suit mode, my exact worRAB were "Holy crap, that's a suit?! What is that thing?". That was definitely the intended effect. There was no shortage of suit size or scope in Macross.

Depending on the end result of Gundam Unicorn, the Unicorn may shoot directly to the top of the list. A single horn/antenna plus a coat of white paint = killer.

Is it okay if I only do my top 5?
I don't know/care enough about mecha shows to do 10 (at least not in any justifiable way)

5. Lagann (Gurren Lagaan) - The way Simone can take over other mechas with that little thing is cool
4. EVA 2(Evangelion) - I like how only children can pilot them; picked 2 because it looks better
3. Kallen's Gurren (Code Geass) - I like the cool angel wings, and that hand/claw thing rocks
2. Voltron (Voltron) - It's Voltron
1. Big O (Big O) - The chains are cool, and I love those piston-arm-fists; plus the decor is just plain awesome

1. Mechazawa (Cromartie High School)
2. Eva Unit 01 (Evangelion)
3. Gurren Lagann (Gurren Lagann)
4. Medabee (Medabots)
5. Eva Unit 03 (Evangelion)

...and that's pretty much it. I clearly don't watch enough giant robot shows.

Heres my choices:

1. RX78 Gundam (Mobile Suit Gundam)
2. Victory 2 Gundam (Victory Gundam)
3. Motoroid (Bubblegum Crisis)
4. DD Battlemover (Bubblegum Crisis)
5. Tallgeese (Gundam Wing)
6. Heavy Arms (Gundam Wing)
7. Gundam X (Gundam X)
8. The mechs from PowerDolls
9. The mechs from Gasaraki
10.R Gun (Super Robot Wars:OG OVA)

8 and 9, i cant think of the names, but need a mention...

Let's go...

10. Voltes V. - A distinct improvement upon its predecessor Corabattler V. Anyone who thinks about Voltron has to realize this robot what was it copied, and not nearly as well.
9. VF-1S Valkyrie- F-14's that turn into robots! IN SPACE!
8. Godannar- A distinct retrothrowback style that somehow manages to have a thoroughly modern twist.
7. SDF-1 Macross- It's not technically a standard mecha, but it's a giant robot battleship. Few robots have gotten bigger or with better firepower than its reflex cannon of death.
6. RX-93 Nu Gundam- Fin funnels.
5. Knight of Gold Mortar Head- Now we're getting into the obscure a bit. The design of this robot in the manga is shown to have been a handcrafted work of art. Every intricate detail was built with the author's love of robots and his own taste in women. Not to mention it has a weapon capable of annhilating an entire battlefield.
4. Dangaioh- This is another obscure entry, but the machine has a unusually attractive organic feel for a corabiner and an impressive scale to boot. A lot of modern mecha designs (Nirvash) try to create that sort of organic design but look more artificial. This one doesn't.
3. Mazinger Z- This design is timeless, like any great character. Look at Shin Mazinger. The design was not overhauled one bit because of this.
2. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann- When over the top creates pure awesomeness.
1. Genesic GaoGaiGar- This is the clear winner for one reason. It's a distillation of a lot of previous designs in a room with designers going "OK, why are corabining robots so much cooler than clunky Battlemechs? Why did everyone love Voltron but despise RAMROD? What was missing?" And this mismash of animals and machine is the result.

Interesting choice.

1. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
2. Eva 03 (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
3. Wing Gundam Zero (Gundam Wing)
4. Scherazade (Escaflowne)
5. 00-Raiser (Gundam 00)
6. Kallen's Gurren (Code Geass)
7. Gurren Lagann
8. Eva 02 (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
9. Tallgeese (Gundam Wing)
10. Gundam Exia (Gundam 00)

1. Blade Liger - Classic Zoid that not only looks fearsome, but awesome too. Van's blue variation was my personal favorite.
2. Genesic GaoGaiGar - Admittedly, I think GaoFighGar is a little cooler, but more people have been voting Genesic so I'll throw my support that way.
3. Escaflowne - Ummm...it's a mech that turns into a dragon. A dragon! How is that not awesome and why are more people not voting for it? Allen's guymelef had nothing on it, as far as I'm concerned.
4. Lazengann - Spiral king's badass gunmen, this thing looks sleek and vicious and pretty cool in black.
5. TypeB303 "Devilfish" - Holland's LFO that just looks plain cool, the silver color makes it shine and the cannons on the wings are a nice touch.
6. RX-78 NT-1 Gundam "Alex" - It had an awesome looking full-armor mode, but more importantly gatling guns mounted in its arms. Bang bang.
7. Great ExKaiser - An awesome corabination of Dragon Kaiser and King ExKaiser, it looks bulky, yet powerful and it has a stunning sword.
8. Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann - My personal favorite of the Gurren mecha, it looked imposing and put a neat twist on some of the usual attacks. It has drill fingers too, which are just plain cool.
9. Gaiking the Great - Another corabination mech, and this one works out pretty well. It's basically a buffed up version of regular Gaiking, but with more intricate attacks. Oh and an epic face open.
10. Dai-Guard - Props to the hundred-foot sales gimmick, despite not being as intricately designed as some of the other mechs on this list I've always just liked how Dai-Guard looked, simple yet effective.
